Abstract. The algorithm Radial Flow Model can generate a 3D closed triangular mesh which fits an unregistered range image. Though complex meshes may be produced, they are restricted to be homeomorph to spheres. In this communication, we present some ideas that may overcome this constraint. Methods for reconstructing from range images the surface of a three dimensional object have evolved rapidly in recent years. 3D model reconstruction from range images can be reduced to adjusting a 3D surface to a given set of sample points. One reconstruction paradigm, known as a local deformation one [2], is to reshape dynamic and locally a geometrically simple, but closed, mesh until it fits the range data with specified accuracy. To our knowledge, the proposed algorithms can only produce meshes which are topologically equivalent to the initial one.
