A Universal Receiver for Uplink NOMA Systems
Given its capability in efficient radio resource sharing, non-orthogonal
multiple access (NOMA) has been identified as a promising technology in 5G to
improve the system capacity, user connectivity, and scheduling latency. A dozen
of uplink NOMA schemes have been proposed recently and this paper considers the
design of a universal receiver suitable for all potential designs of NOMA
schemes. Firstly, a general turbo-like iterative receiver structure is
introduced, under which, a universal expectation propagation algorithm (EPA)
detector with hybrid parallel interference cancellation (PIC) is proposed (EPA
in short). Link-level simulations show that the proposed EPA receiver can
achieve superior block error rate (BLER) performance with implementation
friendly complexity and fast convergence, and is always better than the
traditional codeword level MMSE-PIC receiver for various kinds of NOMA schemes.Comment: This paper has been accepted by IEEE/CIC International Conference on

EXIT Chart Based Joint Code-Rate and Spreading-Factor Optimisation of Single-Carrier Interleave Division Multiple Access
Abstract—In this paper, we consider the joint code-rate and spreading-factor optimisation of turbo-style iterative joint detection and decoding assisted single-carrier interleave division multiple access (SC-IDMA) systems using different-rate convolutional codes and Extrinsic Information Transfer (EXIT) charts, when communicating over Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) channels. More explicitly, we study the extrinsic information exchange between two serial concatenated components and maximise the number of users supported by the SC-IDMA system under the constraint of a fixed bandwidth expansion factor, while maintaining a predefined Bit Error Ratio (BER) versus Eb/N0 performance. We found that an optimum coderate and spreading-factor combination can be found for the SC-IDMA system at low Eb/N0 values, where maintaining a low BER inevitably requires the employment of channel coding. By contrast, at high Eb/N0 the system performs best, when no channel coding is used, i.e. DS-spreading is the only means of bandwidth expansion
Efficient power allocation method for non orthogonal multiple access 5G systems
One of the hot research topics for the upcoming 5G (fifth-generation) wireless communication networks is the non orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) systems, where it have attracted both industrial and academic fields to improve the existing spectral efficiency. In fact, the multiuser detection process for NOMA systems is largely affected by the power distribution of the received signals. In this paper, a new method has been proposed to control the transmit power among active users in one of the promising NOMA systems; the interleave division multiple access (IDMA) which has been adopted here for consideration. Unlike conventional methods, where tedious mathematical computations are required; a simple and direct method has been derived. The proposed method has been applied to IDMA system with different FEC codes. The obtained results show that the proposed method outperforms the conventional one as compared to optimal results
Performance Evaluation of Maximal Ratio Receiver Combining Diversity with Prime Interleaver for Iterative IDMA Receiver
The antenna diversity mechanism is established as the well known mechanism for reduction of probability of occurrence of communication failures (outages) caused by fades. In receiver diversity, multiple antennas are employed at the receiver side in case of transmitter diversity, multiple antennas are the integral part of transmitter section.. In this paper, Maximal Ratio Receiver Combining (MRRC) diversity technique is evaluated to mitigate the effect of fading in IDMA scheme employing random interleaver and prime interleaver with single transmit two receiving antennas in low rate coded environment. For the performance evaluation, channel is assumed to be Rayleigh multipath channel with BPSK modulation. Simulation results demonstrate the significant improvement in BER performance of IDMA with maximal ratio receiver combining (MRRC) diversity along with prime interleaver and random interleaver and it has also been observed that BER performance of prime interleaver is similar to that of random interleaver with reduced bandwidth and memory requirement at transmitter and receiver side. Turbo-like Iterative Multi-user Receiver Design for 5G Non-orthogonal Multiple Access
Non-orthogonal multiple access (NoMA) as an efficient way of radio resource
sharing has been identified as a promising technology in 5G to help improving
system capacity, user connectivity, and service latency in 5G communications.
This paper provides a brief overview of the progress of NoMA transceiver study
in 3GPP, with special focus on the design of turbo-like iterative multi-user
(MU) receivers. There are various types of MU receivers depending on the
combinations of MU detectors and interference cancellation (IC) schemes.
Link-level simulations show that expectation propagation algorithm (EPA) with
hybrid parallel interference cancellation (PIC) is a promising MU receiver,
which can achieve fast convergence and similar performance as message passing
algorithm (MPA) with much lower complexity.Comment: Accepted by IEEE 88th Vehicular Technology Conference (IEEE VTC-2018
