Towards understanding dynamo action in M dwarfs
Recent progress in observational studies of magnetic activity in M dwarfs
urgently requires support from ideas of stellar dynamo theory. We propose a
strategy to connect observational and theoretical studies. In particular, we
suggest four magnetic configurations that appear relevant to dwarfs from the
viewpoint of the most conservative version of dynamo theory, and discuss
observational tests to identify the configurations observationally. As
expected, any such identification contains substantial uncertainties. However
the situation in general looks less pessimistic than might be expected. Several
identifications between the phenomenology of individual stars and dynamo models
are suggested. Remarkably, all models discussed predict substantial surface
magnetic activity at rather high stellar latitudes. This prediction looks
unexpected from the viewpoint of our experience observing the Sun (which of
course differs in some fundamental ways from these late-type dwarfs). We stress
that a fuller understanding of the topic requires a long-term (at least 15
years) monitoring of M dwarfs by Zeeman-Doppler imaging.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures, accepted by MNRA
Masers in star forming regions
Maser emission plays an important role as a tool in star formation studies.
It is widely used for deriving kinematics, as well as the physical conditions
of different structures, hidden in the dense environment very close to the
young stars, for example associated with the onset of jets and outflows. We
will summarize the recent observational and theoretical progress on this topic

Continuum surveys with LOFAR and synergy with future large surveys in the 1-2 GHz band
Radio astronomy is entering the era of large surveys. This paper describes
the plans for wide surveys with the LOw Frequency ARray (LOFAR) and their
synergy with large surveys at higher frequencies (in particular in the 1-2 GHz
band) that will be possible using future facilities like Apertif or ASKAP. The
LOFAR Survey Key Science Project aims at conducting large-sky surveys at 15,
30, 60, 120 and 200 MHz taking advantage of the wide instantaneous field of
view and of the unprecedented sensitivity of this instrument. Four topics have
been identified as drivers for these surveys covering the formation of massive
galaxies, clusters and black holes using z>6 radio galaxies as probes, the
study of the intercluster magnetic fields using diffuse radio emission and
Faraday rotation measures in galaxy clusters as probes and the study of star
formation processes in the early Universe using starburst galaxies as probes.
The fourth topic is the exploration of new parameter space for serendipitous
discovery taking advantage of the new observational spectral window open up by
LOFAR. Here, we briefly discuss the requirements of the proposed surveys to
address these (and many others!) topics as well as the synergy with other wide
area surveys planned at higher frequencies (and in particular in the 1-2 GHz
band) with new radio facilities like ASKAP and Apertif. The complementary
information provided by these surveys will be crucial for detailed studies of
the spectral shape of a variety of radio sources (down to sub-mJy sources) and

The Delphi and GRADE methodology used in the PSOGI 2018 consensus statement on Pseudomyxoma Peritonei and Peritoneal Mesothelioma
Pseudomyxoma Peritonei (PMP) and Peritoneal Mesothelioma (PM) are both rare peritoneal malignancies. Currently, affected patients may be treated with Cytoreductive Surgery and Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy offering long-term survival or even cure in selected patients. However, many issues regarding the optimal treatment strategy are currently under debate. To aid physicians involved in the treatment of these patients in clinical decision making, the PSOGI executive committee proposed to create a consensus statement on PMP and PM. This manuscript describes the methodology of the consensus process. The Delphi technique is a reliable method for attaining consensus on a topic that lacks scientific evidence through multiple voting rounds which feeds back responses to the participants in between rounds. The GRADE system provides a structured framework for presenting and grading the available evidence. Separate questionnaires were created for PMP and PM and sent during two voting rounds to 80 and 38 experts, respectively. A consensus threshold of 51.0% was chosen. After the second round, consensus was reached on 92.9%–100.0% of the questions. The results were presented and discussed in the plenary session at the PSOGI 2018 international meeting in Paris. A third round for the remaining issues is currently in progress. In conclusion, using the Delphi technique and GRADE methodology, consensus was reached in many issues regarding the treatment of PM and PMP amongst an international panel of experts. Neuropsychiatric disturbances in atypical Parkinsonian disorders
Multiple system atrophy (MSA), progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), and corticobasal degeneration (CBD) are the most common atypical parkinsonisms. These disorders are characterized by varying combinations of autonomic, cerebellar and pyramidal system, and cognitive dysfunctions. In this paper, we reviewed the evidence available on the presence and type of neuropsychiatric disturbances in MSA, PSP, and CBD. A MedLine, Excerpta Medica, PsycLit, PsycInfo, and Index Medicus search was performed to identify all articles published on this topic between 1965 and 2018. Neuropsychiatric disturbances including depression, anxiety, agitation, and behavioral abnormalities have been frequently described in these disorders, with depression as the most frequent disturbance. MSA patients show a higher frequency of depressive disorders when compared to healthy controls. An increased frequency of anxiety disorders has also been reported in some patients, and no studies have investigated apathy. PSP patients may have depression, apathy, disinhibition, and to a lesser extent, anxiety and agitation. In CBD, neuropsychiatric disorders are similar to those present in PSP. Hallucinations and delusions are rarely reported in these disorders. Neuropsychiatric symptoms in MSA, PSP, and CBD do not appear to be related to the severity of motor dysfunction and are one of the main factors that determine a low quality of life. The results suggest that neuropsychiatric disturbances should always be assessed in patients with atypical parkinsonisms
