Development of a group work assessment pedagogy using constructive alignment theory
The purpose of this paper is to explore group work assessment underpinned by constructive alignment theory to develop a new assessment pedagogy. A review was undertaken of an existing module ‘Mental Health Nursing 1’, with student nurses participating in the BSc (Hons) Nursing Programme. Constructive alignment theory requires teachers to adopt a deep approach to learning where module learning outcomes are aligned with the teaching environment and modes of assessment. As the module progressed, reviewing the Mental Health Nursing 1 module became an excellent opportunity to begin to understand how constructive alignment theory can inform a group work assessment pedagogy. Working using a constructively aligned assessment process became a valuable learning experience for the module leader whilst at the same time revealed a gap in the research around the impact of constructively aligned teaching and group work assessment
Patient safety competencies in undergraduate nursing students: a rapid evidence assessment
Aims To identify patient safety competencies, and determine the clinical learning environments that facilitate the development of patient safety competencies in nursing students. Background Patient safety in nursing education is of key importance for health professional environments, settings, and care systems. To be effective, safe nursing practice requires a good integration between increasing knowledge and the different clinical practice settings. Nurse educators have the responsibility to develop effective learning processes and ensure patient safety. Design Rapid Evidence Assessment. Data Sources MEDLINE, CINAHL, SCOPUS, and ERIC were searched, yielding 500 citations published between 1 January 2004 - 30 September 2014. Review Methods Following the Rapid Evidence Assessment process, 17 studies were included in this review. Hawker's (2002) quality assessment tool was used to assess the quality of the selected studies. Results Undergraduate nursing students need to develop competencies to ensure patient safety. The quality of the pedagogical atmosphere in the clinical setting has an important impact on the students’ overall level of competence. Active student engagement in clinical processes stimulates their critical reasoning, improves interpersonal communication, and facilitates adequate supervision and feedback. Conclusion Few studies describe the nursing students’ patient safety competencies and exactly what they need to learn. In addition, studies describe only briefly which clinical learning environments facilitate the development of patient safety competencies in nursing students. Further research is needed to identify additional pedagogical strategies and the specific characteristics of the clinical learning environments that encourage the development of nursing students’ patient safety competencies
The Effectivity of Multi Source Feedback (MSF) to Assess Professional Behaviour (Pb) of Nursing Students: an Evaluation Study
Background: Nurses are requested to give an excellent services to patients not only excellent in skills but also excellent in behaviour which serve comfort to patients. The behaviour is called professional behaviour or soft skill. Purpose: The aim of this research is investigating the effectiveness of MSF in assessing nursing students\u27 professional behaviour (PB).Methods: The design of the research is an evaluation study which compares the result of PB between before and after joining practice in clinical setting. The participants were thirty three participants consisting of 33 nursing students and 3 mentors. Data were collected using a quantitative approach. The participants are requested to do self and peer assessment using SPRAT modification form while mentors are asked to assess nursing students using the same form. The assessment was conducted twice, before and after joining internship. The data were analysed to compare the score of PB before and after joining the internship among group of participant using Paired sample T-test or dependent sample T test. Result: The results showed that there were differences of score between before and after joining internship with α = 0.000; 0.001; and 0.000 for self, peer, and mentor assessment respectively. There was no difference of score before joining internship among assessors with α = 0.509, and there was a difference of score after joining internship among assessors with α = 0.005. It means that MSF is an effective method to assess PB of nursing students. Conclusion: Applying MSF method to assess PB of nursing student is suggested for better assessment

Towards an alternative to Benner’s theory of expert intuition in nursing: A discussion paper
Several authors have highlighted the role of intuition in expertise. In particular, a large amount of data has been collected about intuition in expert nursing, and intuition plays an important role in the influential theory of nursing expertise developed by Benner (1984). We discuss this theory, and highlight both data that support it and data that challenge it. Based on this assessment, we propose a new theory of nursing expertise and intuition, which emphasizes how perception and conscious problem solving are intimately related. In the discussion, we propose that this theory opens new avenues of enquiry for research into nursing expertise

Design of Assessment Information System of Dental Nursing Care Service Practice to Support Objectivity of Student Practice Assessment (A Study at School of Dental Nursing of Health Polytechnic of Health Ministry in Bandung)
xvi + 165 pages + 17 tables + 52 figures + 7 appendices
Assessment of dental nursing care service practice at School of Dental Nursing (SoDN) of Health Polytechnic of Health Ministry in Bandung was done manually (paper-based) by using various forms of Assessment Performance (AP) and reporting. This condition accounted for some problems in collecting and managing data, and in presenting information that were needed by lecturers, students, and others. In addition, these problems could reduce objectivity of practice assessment. The aim of this study was to result design of assessment information system of dental nursing care service practice that could support objectivity of practice assessment at SoDN of Bandung Health Polytechnic.
This was an explorative study by conducting indepth interview and analysing secondary data. Respondents consisted of four lecturers/instructors, three managers, and three students of level III. Data were collected qualitatively using case-study approach by investigating respondents’ experiences and documents that were used to do an activity of dental nursing care service practice.
The results of this research showed that design of information system supporting objectivity of practice assessment of dental nursing care service basically replaced activities of data capture and data management from paper-based to be computer based using inter-face web that could be accessed through various hardware connected to server network. As a result, it could be accessed online by users at a management level.
As a suggestion, the resulted design needs to be followed up by developing the system in order to be utilised and performed further analyses to make sure that a developed system runs in accordance with expectation and is evaluated to do further development.

What should we assess in practice?
Aim: This article reports on a PhD study and follow up work undertaken to review and develop a tool for assessment of practice.
Background: The assessment of practice in nursing and midwifery education and, other health professions has been the source of concern, criticism and research for a number of years with the conclusion that it might not be possible to develop an assessment tool that could encompass all aspects of professional practice.
Methods: A qualitative evaluation study was undertaken using the naturalistic method of inquiry. A combination of tools was used in order to collect the data and enable progressive focusing and cross checking of the findings. These included documentary analysis, a questionnaire and focus group and individual interviews. The data was collected from documents analysis, focus group interviews, individual interviews and questionnaires.
Results: The results showed that the assessment tool in use at the time did not encompass all criteria assessors used and six areas were identified as those to include in any future tool.
Conclusion: The six areas identified by subjects as those to include in any assessment tool were further developed with specific statements so that they could be used within a tool.
Implications for nursing management and education: Within the changing nature of health care there is a need to review whether the tool used for assessing pre-registration education of nursing and midwifery students practice is ‘fit for purpose’
Reframing e-assessment: building professional nursing and academic attributes in a first year nursing course
This paper documents the relationships between pedagogy and e-assessment in two nursing courses offered at the University of Southern Queensland, Australia. The courses are designed to build the academic, numeracy and technological attributes student nurses need if they are to succeed at university and in the nursing profession. The paper first outlines the management systems supporting the two courses and how they intersect with the e-learning and e-assessment components of course design. These pedagogical choices are then reviewed. While there are lessons to be learnt and improvements to be made, preliminary results suggest students and staff are extremely supportive of the courses. The e-assessment is very positively received with students reporting increased confidence and competency in numeracy, as well as IT, academic, research and communication skills
PEMBERIAN HIGH FLOW NASAL CANNULA PADA PASIEN DENGAN ACUTE LUNG OEDEMA DENGAN MASALAH KEPERAWATAN POLA NAPAS TIDAK EFEKTIF
Background: Acute lung edema is an emergency condition that requires action as soon as possible because it will be fatal due to disruption of the gas exchange process in the alveoli, if not treated quickly it will have an impact on death. In this final scientific work, the case of a patient experiencing acute lung edema is raised. For this reason, this final scientific work aims to describe the process of nursing care for patients with acute lung edema at UMM Malang Hospital.
Method: The research method used in the preparation of this Final Scientific Work uses case study reports. The author follows the scientific method according to the
principles of the nursing process which include: Assessment, data analysis, nursing
intervention, nursing implementation and evaluation. In the process of assessment
the authors used data collection techniques such as anamnesis, observation and
physical examination to collect various data from these patients.
Results: After giving nursing care for 1 x 4 hours, the authors raised a priority
diagnosis, namely ineffective breathing patterns associated with respiratory effort
barriers (D.005) with the evaluation results of the problem not being resolved.
Discussion: The problem of nursing ineffective breathing pattern in acute lung
edema occurs in patients occurs due to accumulation of fluid in the lungs resulting
in shortness of breath so that the patient experiences a decrease in oxygen saturation
and results in hypoxemia, the action that has been carried out by the nurse is to
fulfill the need for oxygenation to increase exchange gas, improves the work of
breathing, and reduces the respiratory rate
