Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs), Islamic Bank, and Religiosity
This paper attempts to examine the role played by Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in absorbing workforce in North Sumatra. This paper argues that the SME sector succeeded facing the impact of the economic crisis in 1998, 2008, and the European crisis in 2011. Based on the findings of this study, it can be concluded that education, labor force, financing, profit sharing, and religiosity have simultaneously given a positive impact on SMEs in North Sumatra. Even though it is influential, the coefficient of elasticity for profit, financing, education, labor force, and religiosity is inelastic towards the development of SMEs in North Sumatra. The findings imply that Islamic banks are unable to deal with the SMEs market. Thus, it requires serious attention from Islamic banks to play important role in developing SMEs in North Sumatra
Economic interaction between Malaysia and North Sumatra : an analysis with vector error correction model and granger causality
Purpose: This study aims to explain the economic interaction of North Sumatra province in Indonesia with the Malaysian economy and vice versa. The variables studied were the North Sumatra PDRB proxy from the economy of North Sumatra, Malaysia's GDP proxy from the Malaysian economy, Export-Import from both regions. Design/methodology/approach: This study uses time series data from 1990-2016. Test and analysis tools use descriptive statistics, ordinary least square (OLS), unit root tests, cointegration tests, vector error correction models (VECM), impulse response functions, granger causality tests. Findings: The results show that Malaysia's economy has a positive and significant impact on North Sumatra's exports to Malaysia, and North Sumatra's exports to Malaysia have a positive and significant impact on Malaysian exports to North Sumatra, meaning there is a two-way relationship. Moreover, North Sumatra's exports to Malaysia have a negative and significant impact on Malaysia's economy. Practical implications: The results show that the increasing economy of North Sumatra caused an increase in North Sumatra imports from Malaysia as well as an increase in Malaysia's economy which led to an increase in Malaysian imports from North Sumatra. Originality/value: This study shows the economic interaction and trade relationship analysis between neighbouring regions with multiple examinations of Vector Error Correction Model And Granger Causality.peer-reviewe

Analisis Elastisitas Permintaan terhadap Kredit Konsumsi di Sumatera Utara
This research aims to analyze the elasticity of demand for consumer loans in North Sumatra. The variables observed in this study is consumer credit interest rate, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita and the exchange rate of rupiah against the dollar. This research uses time series data for the period 1996-2010, which is a secondary data. The data is sourced from the central bank of Indonesia and North Sumatra Central Bureau of Statistics, The model used in this study is a model of multiple regression equations and analyzed using Ordinary Least Squares (OLS). Based on the estimates, the researh found that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita and the rupiah exchange rate against the dollar significantly influence credit demand in North Sumatra but consumer credit interest ratenot significantly influence. The elasticity of demand for consumer credit in North Sumatra is inelastic to changes in consumer credit interest rate and the exchange rate of the rupiah against the dollar, but it is elastic to GDP per capita. This means that the demand for consumer loans in North Sumatra are more sensitive to changes in GDP per capita than the changes in interest rates and the exchange rate againstthedollar
