Implementation and Effects of LDC and MDC in Kentucky Districts
This brief summarizes early evidence on the success of two tools Kentucky districts have used to support their teachers' transition to these more demanding goals: Literacy Design Collaborative (LDC) and Math Design Collaborative (MDC). With support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, LDC and MDC tools have been designed and implemented to embody the key shifts in teaching and learning that the new standards demand. By implementing the tools, teachers then engage in new pedagogy and address relevant learning goals of the Kentucky Core Academic Standards
Enhancement of urban pluvial flood risk management and resilience through collaborative modelling: a UK case study
This paper presents the main findings and lessons learned from the development and implementation of a new methodology for collaborative modelling, social learning and social acceptance of flood risk management technologies. The proposed methodology entails three main phases: (1) stakeholder analysis and engagement; (2) improvement of urban pluvial flood modelling and forecasting tools; and (3) development and implementation of web-based tools for collaborative modelling in flood risk management and knowledge sharing. The developed methodology and tools were tested in the Cranbrook catchment (London Borough of Redbridge, UK), an area that has experienced severe pluvial (surface) flooding in the past. The developed methodologies proved to be useful for promoting interaction between stakeholders, developing collaborative modelling and achieving social acceptance of new technologies for flood risk management. Some limitations for stakeholder engagement were identified and are discussed in the present paper

E-Learning and support tools for Information and Computer Sciences
The availability of Web 2.0 tools together with associated Open Educational Resources (OER) enables the creation of new social and collaborative learning spaces. This paper investigates student preferences (across three cohorts) in terms of openly and freely accessible Web 2.0 tools to provide a space where students can interact with each other and their tutor to discuss concerns that arise within their final year project-based learning. This intervention was planned since existing arrangements that support communication between tutor and distance learning students appeared insufficient to facilitate the necessarily intense episodes of interaction required for productive supervision. The findings suggest that different student cohorts are interested in using a variety of Web 2.0 tools. This paper gives initial feedback about intended usage of Web 2.0 tools for co-operative and collaborative learning for final year project work

Abstract: While companies are more and more favorable to collaborative approaches between their services, reflections on learning to use technological tools rarely call into question new organizational models. In a field where many impressionistic approaches related to mere trends or finalized developments are to be found, technological tools may contribute to the development of the collaborative capacities of the firms and may also help to better apprehend organizational changes based on technologies. A novel approach to collaborative product development in the medical-equipment industry
In this study, we summarise the requirements for collaborative product development based on our investigation of the differences in the resources and tools that are needed for the various stages of collaborative product development and the needs of system users during these various stages. We proposed a user-oriented approach of collaborative product development for medical equipment and designed a collaborative product development system with the required functionalities to satisfy different areas according to their roles and workflow. The system we developed can drastically simplify the original complex and dispersed process of product development for intelligent medical equipment, thereby allowing the project team to develop new medical-equipment products and promote interactions among the research and development staff, clinical specialists, and the test participants successfully, thereby resulting in a user-oriented collaborative product development process

Design Within Complex Environments: Collaborative Engineering in the Aerospace Industry
The design and the industrialization of an aircraft, a major component, or
an aerostructure is a complex process. An aircraft like the Airbus A400M is composed
of about 700,000 parts (excluding standard parts). The parts are assembled
into aerostructures and major components, which are designed and manufactured in
several countries all over the world. The introduction of new Product Lifecycle
Management (PLM) methodologies, procedures and tools, and the need to reduce
time-to-market, led Airbus Military to pursue new working methods to deal with
complexity. Collaborative Engineering promotes teamwork to develop product, processes
and resources from the conceptual phase to the start of the serial production.
This paper introduces the main concepts of Collaborative Engineering as a new
methodology, procedures and tools to design and develop an aircraft, as Airbus
Military is implementing. To make a Proof of Concept (PoC), a pilot project,
CALIPSOneo, was launched to support the functional and industrial design process

The current climate of economic competition forces businesses to adapt more than ever to the expectations of their customers. Faced with new challenges, practices in textile design have evolved in order to be able to manage projects in new work environments. After presenting a state of the art overview of collaborative tools used in product design and making functional comparison between PLM solutions, our paper proposes a case study for the development and testing of a collaborative platform in the textile industry, focusing on the definition of early stages of design needs. The scientific contributions presented in this paper are a state of the art of current PLM solutions and their application in the field of textile design; and a case study where we will present, define, and test the mock-up of a collaborative tool to assist the early stages, based on identified intermediary representations
