AMMSE Optimization for Multiuser MISO Systems with Imperfect CSIT and Perfect CSIR
In this paper, we consider the design of robust linear precoders for MU-MISO
systems where users have perfect Channel State Information (CSI) while the BS
has partial CSI. In particular, the BS has access to imperfect estimates of the
channel vectors, in addition to the covariance matrices of the estimation error
vectors. A closed-form expression for the Average Minimum Mean Square Error
(AMMSE) is obtained using the second order Taylor Expansion. This approximation
is used to formulate two fairness-based robust design problems: a maximum
AMMSE-constrained problem and a power-constrained problem. We propose an
algorithm based on convex optimization techniques to address the first problem,
while the second problem is tackled by exploiting the close relationship
between the two problems, in addition to their monotonic natures.Comment: IEEE Global Communications Conference (GLOBECOM) 201
Transmit Optimization with Improper Gaussian Signaling for Interference Channels
This paper studies the achievable rates of Gaussian interference channels
with additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN), when improper or circularly
asymmetric complex Gaussian signaling is applied. For the Gaussian
multiple-input multiple-output interference channel (MIMO-IC) with the
interference treated as Gaussian noise, we show that the user's achievable rate
can be expressed as a summation of the rate achievable by the conventional
proper or circularly symmetric complex Gaussian signaling in terms of the
users' transmit covariance matrices, and an additional term, which is a
function of both the users' transmit covariance and pseudo-covariance matrices.
The additional degrees of freedom in the pseudo-covariance matrix, which is
conventionally set to be zero for the case of proper Gaussian signaling,
provide an opportunity to further improve the achievable rates of Gaussian
MIMO-ICs by employing improper Gaussian signaling. To this end, this paper
proposes widely linear precoding, which efficiently maps proper
information-bearing signals to improper transmitted signals at each transmitter
for any given pair of transmit covariance and pseudo-covariance matrices. In
particular, for the case of two-user Gaussian single-input single-output
interference channel (SISO-IC), we propose a joint covariance and
pseudo-covariance optimization algorithm with improper Gaussian signaling to
achieve the Pareto-optimal rates. By utilizing the separable structure of the
achievable rate expression, an alternative algorithm with separate covariance
and pseudo-covariance optimization is also proposed, which guarantees the rate
improvement over conventional proper Gaussian signaling.Comment: Accepted by IEEE Transactions on Signal Processin
Linear Transceiver design for Downlink Multiuser MIMO Systems: Downlink-Interference Duality Approach
This paper considers linear transceiver design for downlink multiuser
multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. We examine different transceiver
design problems. We focus on two groups of design problems. The first group is
the weighted sum mean-square-error (WSMSE) (i.e., symbol-wise or user-wise
WSMSE) minimization problems and the second group is the minimization of the
maximum weighted mean-squareerror (WMSE) (symbol-wise or user-wise WMSE)
problems. The problems are examined for the practically relevant scenario where
the power constraint is a combination of per base station (BS) antenna and per
symbol (user), and the noise vector of each mobile station is a zero-mean
circularly symmetric complex Gaussian random variable with arbitrary covariance
matrix. For each of these problems, we propose a novel downlink-interference
duality based iterative solution. Each of these problems is solved as follows.
First, we establish a new mean-square-error (MSE) downlink-interference
duality. Second, we formulate the power allocation part of the problem in the
downlink channel as a Geometric Program (GP). Third, using the duality result
and the solution of GP, we utilize alternating optimization technique to solve
the original downlink problem. For the first group of problems, we have
established symbol-wise and user-wise WSMSE downlink-interference duality.Comment: IEEE TSP Journa
