    Nuclear Effects in Generators: the Path Forward

    The extraction of neutrino oscillation parameters requires the determination of the neutrino energy from observations of the hadronic final state. The use of nuclear targets then requires the use of event generators to isolate the interesting elementary processes and to take experimental acceptances into account. In this talk I briefly summarize the history of event generators and their use in nuclear physics, talk briefly about the generators used in the neutrino community and then discuss future necessary developments.Comment: Talk at NuInt11, Dehradun, India, March 201

    Hadrons in Nuclei

    Changes of hadronic properties in dense nuclear matter as predicted by theory have usually been investigated by means of relativistic heavy-ion reactions. In this talk I show that observable consequences of such changes can also be seen in more elementary reactions on nuclei. Particular emphasis is put on a discussion of photonuclear reactions; examples are the dilepton production at ≈1\approx 1 GeV and the hadron production in nuclei at 10 - 20 GeV photon energies. The observable effects are expected to be as large as in relativistic heavy-ion collisions and can be more directly related to the underlying hadronic changes.Comment: Invited talk at HADRON'03, Aschaffenburg, Germany, Aug. 31 - Sept. 6, 200

    Neutrino-Nucleus Interactions at the LBNF Near Detector

    The reaction mechanisms for neutrino interactions with an 40Ar^{40}Ar nucleus with the LBNF flux are calculated with the Giessen-Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck (GiBUU) transport-theoretical implementation of these interactions. Quasielastic scattering, many-body effects, pion production and absorption and Deep Inelastic Scattering are discussed; they all play a role at the LBNF energies and are experimentally entangled with each other. Quasielastic scattering makes up for only about 1/3 of the total cross section whereas pion production channels make up about 2/3 of the total. This underlines the need for a consistent description of the neutrino-nucleus reaction that treats all channels on an equal, consistent footing.     Dilepton Production in Elementary Processes on the Nucleon

    We study elementary processes for production of dileptons from nucleons, either through NN bremsstrahlung or through photon-induced reactions. We emphasize the dependence of the expected cross-sections on the electromagnetic formfactor of the nucleon in the time-like regime and point out that the mentioned reactions can provide important information on the validity of vector meson dominance for the nucleon.
