Detection of surface defects on ceramic tiles based on morphological techniques

Ceramic tiles have become very popular and are used in the flooring of offices and shopping malls. As testing the quality of tiles manually in a highly polluted environment in the manufacturing industry is a labor-intensive and time consuming process, analysis is carried out on the tile images. This paper discusses an automated system to detect the defects on the surface of ceramic tiles based on dilation, erosion, SMEE and boundary detection techniques.Comment: 9 pages, 11 figure

This paper deals with enhancement of images and background detection using Mathematical Morphological \ud [MM] theory on dark images. Due to poor lightening the background of the image is not clear. This image can be \ud enhanced by lightening the back ground with various morphological operations. Basically, Weber’s Law \ud Operator is used to analyze dark images which are carried out by two methods such as Image background \ud detection by block analysis while second operator utilize opening by reconstruction to define multi background \ud notion. Some Morphological operations such as (Erosion, Dilation, Compound operation such as Opening by \ud reconstruction, Erosion-Dilation method) and Block Analysis is used to detect the background of images. \ud Analysis of above mention methods illustrated through the processing of images with different dark background \ud images
