A simple model of search engine pricing

    Get PDF
We present a simple model of how a monopolistic search engine optimally determines the average quality of firms in its search pool. In our model, there is a continuum of consumers, who use the search engine’s pool, and there is a continuum of firms, whose entry to the pool is restricted by a price set by the search engine. We show that a monopolistic search engine may have an incentive to set a relatively low price that encouarges low-relevance advertisers to enter the search pool. This conclusion is independent of whether the search engine charges a price per click or a fixed access fee

Exhaustive Search-based Model for Hybrid Sensor Network

A new model for a cluster of hybrid sensors network with multi sub-clusters is proposed. The model is in particular relevant to the early warning system in a large scale monitoring system in, for example, a nuclear power plant. It mainly addresses to a safety critical system which requires real-time processes with high accuracy. The mathematical model is based on the extended conventional search algorithm with certain interactions among the nearest neighborhood of sensors. It is argued that the model could realize a highly accurate decision support system with less number of parameters. A case of one dimensional interaction function is discussed, and a simple algorithm for the model is also given.Comment: 6 pages, Proceeding of the International Conference on Intelligent & Advanced Systems 2012 pp. 557-56

SMASH: One-Shot Model Architecture Search through HyperNetworks

Designing architectures for deep neural networks requires expert knowledge and substantial computation time. We propose a technique to accelerate architecture selection by learning an auxiliary HyperNet that generates the weights of a main model conditioned on that model's architecture. By comparing the relative validation performance of networks with HyperNet-generated weights, we can effectively search over a wide range of architectures at the cost of a single training run. To facilitate this search, we develop a flexible mechanism based on memory read-writes that allows us to define a wide range of network connectivity patterns, with ResNet, DenseNet, and FractalNet blocks as special cases. We validate our method (SMASH) on CIFAR-10 and CIFAR-100, STL-10, ModelNet10, and Imagenet32x32, achieving competitive performance with similarly-sized hand-designed networks. Our code is available at https://github.com/ajbrock/SMAS

    Search-Based Model Transformations

    Get PDF
Huge efforts have been invested in the last decade concerning the establishment of dedicated analysis methods and techniques for model transformations. The analysis of general properties such as termination and confluence as well as specific properties defined for one particular transformation have been studied for different transformation kinds and languages. What most transformation analyses have in common is that they consider the transformation specifications as their primary source. However, as I will show in my presentation, methods and techniques deployed for analysing potential transformation executions at runtime are needed as well. As transformation executions quickly span huge transformation spaces, I will show how to effectively analyse and guide transformation executions towards fulfilling multiple, potentially conflicting transformation goals by employing search-based techniques.Universidad de Málaga. Search for Physics Beyond the Standard Model

We survey some recent ideas and progress in looking for particle physics beyond the Standard Model, connected by the theme of Supersymmetry (SUSY). We review the success of SUSY-GUT models, the expected experimental signatures and present limits on SUSY partner particles, and Higgs phenomenology in the minimal SUSY model.Comment: Standard Latex file. 18 pages without figures.
