CONTINUOUS COMPLIANCE MONITORING IN ERP SYSTEMS - A METHOD FOR IDENTIFYING SEGREGATION OF DUTIES CONFLICTS

    Get PDF
Segregation of Duties (SOD) can be seen as one major class of control activities within a company\u27s Internal Control framework, contributing to the reliability of financial reporting. In recent years, SOD controls in terms of user access rights have experienced a surge of attention in particular, mostly due to the growing reliance of business processes on ERP systems. This paper presents a method for automatically identifying SOD conflicts in user access rights as one component of a continuous compliance monitoring framework. The paper further demonstrates the application of the proposed method in a real world project

Cloud Computing Adoption: An SME Case Study

    Get PDF
Cloud Computing is a paradigm shift in IT services delivery. This shift promises large gains in agility, efficiency and flexibility at a time when demands on data centres are growing exponentially. Despite the importance of Cloud Technology there is a dearth of research of Cloud Technology adoption in Small and Medium Enterprises. This paper seeks to address this challenge by conducting Case Study research based on Design Science and Engaged Scholarship on an SME who is in the process of developing a capability in this area. A framework called the IT-CMF was used. The framework enabled a measurement capability that will be an invaluable tool for the company as it ensures that risks are mitigated and the opportunities created by cloud computing are maximized in a planned and controlled way

The case for design science utility - Evaluation of design science artefacts within the IT capability maturity framework

    Get PDF
Despite the increasing popularity of design science research, evaluating design artefacts is still challenging. Several guidelines and suggestions have been proposed, however combining practical utility and academic rigor can be difficult, in particular when research is co-funded by industry. In this research-in-progress paper we describe a novel IT Management model, the IT Capability Maturity Framework and its design process. In order to incorporate the evaluation of design artifacts along the design process within an open innovation community, we propose to use common information quality criteria and evaluate the design artefacts using the quality model. Particular focus is given to address both practical usability as well as rigor of the evaluation criteria by using well established information quality criteria. The research emphasizes the importance of evaluation and utility in Design Science Research

IS Method Design for Knowledge Management Systems

    Get PDF
Literature on information systems (IS) method design provides little guidance for constructing and validating IS related methods based on components of existing methods. Method engineering, including method characteristics framework and super method, is a methodology for constructing holistic new methods from existing ones, based on the elicitation and adaptation of components from the existing methods. However, while these methodologies focus on how to conceptualize, develop, adapt, and assemble new methods from existing method components, we believe that the newly formed methods need to be rigorously grounded in the field and hence should be iteratively developed and inductively validated based on empirical data. This paper proposes combining several grounded theory tools with methodologies of constructing new methods, for forming a comprehensive methodology for IS method design, so the methods created with it will be grounded. The new methodology is illustrated by designing a requirements engineering method for knowledge management systems

Dealing with Complexity: A Method to Adapt and Implement a Maturity Model for Corporate Data Quality Management

    Get PDF
Reference models usually serve as starting points for developing company specific models. Unfortunately, successful usage of reference models is often impeded by various aspects, such as a lack of acceptance among employees, incorrect model implementation, or high project costs - all of which more often than not are resulting from an imbalance between the model\u27s complexity and the complexity of a company\u27s specific structures. The paper at hand develops a methodical approach for taking a given reference model (the Maturity Model for Corporate Data Quality Management) and transforming it into a company specific model, with a particular focus on the specific complexity of a company\u27s structures. Corporate Data Quality Management describes the quality oriented organization and control of a company\u27s key data assets such as material, customer, and vendor data. Two case studies show how the method has been successfully implemented in real-world scenarios

Solution-based Innovation : A Method for Emerging Technology Use Case Development

    Get PDF
Interest in blockchain is growing rapidly and at a global scale. The potential to disrupt various industries is attributed to the emerging blockchain technology. Organizations and institutions have thus begun to examine the emerging the technology and its impact on their businesses. However, researchers and practitioners still lack a systematic approach to understand the po-tential of blockchain and to develop convincing use cases. We addressed this research gap by applying an action design research approach and situational method engineering to propose a method for the development of blockchain technology use cases. Following this approach, we iteratively evaluate and further develop the proposed method through application in four distinct industries. In a next research step, we now focus on a broader context and evaluate if our existing use case development method is applicable for other emerging technologies than blockchain. By doing so, we seek to broaden our evaluation, generalize our method, and support practitioners and researchers in better leveraging the opportunities of continuous digital transformation
