El concepto de metanoia. Una perspectiva especulativa

    Get PDF
In the context of the early stages of the so-called «speculative realism» (a very recent philosophical trend which only dates back to 2007), the German philosophers and literary critics Armen Avanessian and Anke Hennig have developed the concept of «metanoia» in their work Metanoia: Spekulative Ontologie der Sprache. A «metanoia» is a founding experience in which a written work affects our outlook on the world and provides us a new conceptuality, through which the world itself does not remain unaltered. The development of this concept amounts to the attempt to surpass the barriers between language and world, between representation and reality, between concepts and referents, etc. by means of a model based in the metonymy as a fundamental linguistic phenomenon. In this paper, I first analyze the general conceptual frame of the «speculative realism», I then consider what the contribution of the concept of metanoia is, and I finally suggest further elaboration

    Writing as life performed

In this chapter I explore the interrelatedness of practice, rehearsal, and performance and their applicability in the domain of “life.” These relationships are complicated when, in reference to Adorno’s Minima Moralia, the content of critical-essayistic production (which is analogous to aesthetic production in many ways) is ultimately that of the life of the author. I propose that to a large extent, the categories of practicing, rehearsing, and performing that are derivable from artistic-productive experience can be extended to lived experience. Working and living seriously and critically have significant points of convergence. What I attempt to disrupt is the presupposition of any “natural” hierarchy between these categories, whereby, for example, performance – connoting the tangible accomplishment of goals and the visibility of that accomplishment – takes precedence over the open-ended tasks of practice and rehearsal

    Logos and Metanoia

The aim of this paper is to reconsider the meaning of the two title concepts which can be found at the base of the European thought. Referring to the works of Giovanni Reale (Italian historian of philosophy from the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries) the author tries to reconstruct the Greek reflection of spiritual transformation. Starting with Odyssey by Homer and selected works by Plato the concept of “second navigation” is presented. In case of Plato, it is his Letters that play a crucial role in the demonstration of „second navigation”. The transformation of this very concept in Neoplatonism of Philo of Alexandria and Plotinus is subsequently discussed. The author also brings to mind two Greek conceptions of time: Cronus and Caerus. The text also has reference to contemporary philosophy and literature. On the one hand, “second navigation” takes on a new meaning in the light of the concept of “stream of consciousness” invented by William James. On the other one, the idea of “stream of consciousness” was deliberately used in Ulysses by James Joyce in order to describe a situation when no “second navigation” is possible. In this way, the story of spiritual transformation of both Odysseus and Stephen Dedalus from Ulysses by James Joyce can be reinterpreted anew.Celem artykułu jest rozważenie znaczenia dwóch tytułowych pojęć, które można znaleźć u podstaw myśli europejskiej. Nawiązując do pracy Giovanniego Reale, włoskiego historyka filozofii przełomu dwudziestego i dwudziestego pierwszego wieku, autor dokonuje próby rekonstrukcji greckiej refleksji o przemianie duchowej. Zaczynając od Odysei Homera i wybranych dzieł Platona, dokonana zostaje prezentacja „drugiego żeglowania”. W przypadku Platona szczególnie ważną rolę odgrywają Listy, wyraźnie prezentujące to pojęcie. Następnie zostaje omówiona przemiana tego pojęcia w neoplatonizmie Filona z Aleksandrii i Plotyna. Ponadto autor przypomina dwa greckie pojęcia czasu: Kronosa i Kairosa. Prowadzi to do odniesień wziętych ze współczesnej filozofii i literatury. Z jednej strony „drugie żeglowanie” nabiera nowego znaczenia w świetle koncepcji strumienia świadomości Wiliama Jamesa. Z drugiej zaś strumień świadomości został świadomie zastosowany w Ulissesie Jamesa Joyce’a do opisu sytuacji, w której nie dochodzi do „drugiego żeglowania”. W ten oto sposób na nowo może być reinterpretowana historia duchowej przemiany Odysa i Stefana Dedalusa z Ulissesa Jamesa Joyce’a

    Confessions Within a Guilt-Denying Society

We live in a guilt-denying society. No-fault auto insurance limits the cost of an accident to the paying of bills rather than the assessing of blame. A disillusioned spouse bends the ear of a sympathetic listener as to the problems that the other partner causes within the marriage. The habitually late student explains to his teacher, But it wasn\u27t my fault! We live in a society that seems to demand success over failure and rightness over wrongness. Therefore, the tendency is to deny anything that would make us look wrong or in any way inadequate

The current problem that many churches face today is the lack of leaders who have sufficient ability to develop ministry in the church. The church that should produce leaders who have true faith, adequate knowledge and genuine devotion, even experience a leadership crisis. The absence of effective leadership will result in the Church\u27s lack of even future leader runs out. For that, the Church must begin to think about how to produce church leaders for the future. The church must begin by preparing reliable young leaders, from now on. The best way and according to the Word of God to be able to produce leaders is by discipleship or what is now called mentoring. But unfortunately, there are still many leaders, especially young leaders who lack understanding about mentoring. Mentoring is the process of forming leaders so that leaders will be produced the qualified leader. Young leaders must understand that mentoring must be done by example of each member. Then the youth leader must train and guide its members to understand leadership. The next stage is to send them as new leaders so they can multiply. A church with good youth leadership will have an impact on the development of youth ministry in the church. The impact of the development of this ministry will produce souls and all of them for the glory of God
