    An Event-Driven Platform for Agility Management of Crisis Response

    International audienceThis article aims at presenting a whole approach of Information System Interoperability management in a crisis management cell: a Mediation Information System (MIS) may be used to help the crisis cell partners to design, run and manage the workflows of the response to a crisis situation. The architecture of the MIS meets the needs of low coupling between the partners' Information System components and the need of agility for such a platform. It is based on Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Event-Driven Architecture (EDA) principles that are combined to the Complex Event Processing (CEP) principles. This should leads on the one hand to an easier orchestration, choreography and real-time monitoring of the workflows' activities, on the other hand to assume on-the-fly automated agility of the crisis response (considering agility as the ability of the processes to remain consistent with the response to the crisis)

    Composable M&S web services for net-centric applications

    Service-oriented architectures promise easier integration of functionality in the form of web services into operational systems than is the case with interface-driven system-oriented approaches. Although the Extensible Markup Language (XML) enables a new level of interoperability among heterogeneous systems, XML alone does not solve all interoperability problems users contend with when integrating services into operational systems. To manage the basic challenges of service interoperation, we developed the Levels of Conceptual Interoperability Model (LCIM) to enable a layered approach and gradual solution improvements. Furthermore, we developed methods of model-based data engineering (MBDE) for semantically consistent service integration as a first step. These methods have been applied in the U.S. in collaboration with industry resulting in proofs of concepts. The results are directly applicable in a net-centric and net-enabled environment

    The authors wish to acknowledge the support of the European Commission through the funding of the UNITE, MSEE and IMAGINE FP7 projects, and the European Space Agency - Concurrent Design Facility (ESA-CDF) for their support in the development of the business case presented in this paper.The Sensing Enterprise is a novel concept that refers to an enterprise anticipating future decisions by using multi-dimensional information captured through physical and virtual objects. The Sensing Enterprise concept is shifting focus towards a borderless enterprise, having at its core the collaboration and continuous interactions among smart objects and systems. But in the actual competitive and global business context, the maintenance of the collaboration environment through the interoperation among heterogeneous smart virtual and physical objects in a collaborative organizational environment becomes difficult to achieve. Therefore, in a dynamic context a change in any component of the networked partners affects the others, creating difficulties to sustain operating networked environment. In this respect, this paper proposes an intelligent negotiation framework as a key mechanism to achieve and maintain the interoperability between the organisations' smart objects and applications, and its validation in an industrial scenario. To allow a sustainable, flexible and generic approach towards the infrastructure implementation in global scale, a cloud-based platform is proposed for setting of the Sensing Enterprise framework.publishersversionpublishe

    Towards a Metamodel supporting E-government Collaborative Business Processes Management within a Service-based Interoperability Platform

    Interoperability between different organizations is a complex task, where a key element is to be able to define without ambiguity the concepts that are involved in each domain and their relations. A key aspect for enabling e-government is the technological support for complex interaction scenarios, defining collaborative Business Processes (BPs) that are the basis for these interactions. E-government collaborative BPs involve several and heterogeneous participants: organizations, partners, and users, with different capabilities, needs, and available technical support. The goal of this paper is to present ongoing research on e-government cross-organizational collaborative BPs support in a service-based interoperability platform. This proposal is focused on the formalization and exploitation of e-government knowledge and information (i.e., metamodels and ontologies) to improve the definition, automated generation, control, monitoring and improvement of e-government collaborative BPs

    This document is the result of a synthesis of the ActionPlanT project “Roadmap for FP8” and it is intended to provide a general understanding of the work approach and of the roadmap contents. The ActionPlanT project is co-funded by the European Commission under the Private-Public Partnership (PPP) "Factories of the Future" within the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) (Grant Agreement Number 258617). ActionPlanT aims to develop a vision on the short, medium, and long term role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the European manufacturing industry. ActionPlanT also liaises with EFFRA, the Factories of the Future Research Association, as a key industry representing body. ActionPlanT activities include the development of a roadmap to prioritize most promising topics for the next Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (‘Horizon 2020’, covering the period 2014-2020). The research project started in June 2010 and ended in May 2012
