Covering matroid
In this paper, we propose a new type of matroids, namely covering matroids,
and investigate the connections with the second type of covering-based rough
sets and some existing special matroids. Firstly, as an extension of
partitions, coverings are more natural combinatorial objects and can sometimes
be more efficient to deal with problems in the real world. Through extending
partitions to coverings, we propose a new type of matroids called covering
matroids and prove them to be an extension of partition matroids. Secondly,
since some researchers have successfully applied partition matroids to
classical rough sets, we study the relationships between covering matroids and
covering-based rough sets which are an extension of classical rough sets.
Thirdly, in matroid theory, there are many special matroids, such as
transversal matroids, partition matroids, 2-circuit matroid and
partition-circuit matroids. The relationships among several special matroids
and covering matroids are studied.Comment: 15 page
An obstacle to a decomposition theorem for near-regular matroids
Seymour's Decomposition Theorem for regular matroids states that any matroid
representable over both GF(2) and GF(3) can be obtained from matroids that are
graphic, cographic, or isomorphic to R10 by 1-, 2-, and 3-sums. It is hoped
that similar characterizations hold for other classes of matroids, notably for
the class of near-regular matroids. Suppose that all near-regular matroids can
be obtained from matroids that belong to a few basic classes through k-sums.
Also suppose that these basic classes are such that, whenever a class contains
all graphic matroids, it does not contain all cographic matroids. We show that

Hopf algebras for matroids over hyperfields
Recently, M.~Baker and N.~Bowler introduced the notion of matroids over hyperfields as a unifying theory of various generalizations of matroids. In this paper we generalize the notion of minors and direct sums from ordinary matroids to matroids over hyperfields. Using this we generalize the classical construction of matroid-minor Hopf algebras to the case of matroids over hyperfields
Graphical representations of graphic frame matroids
A frame matroid M is graphic if there is a graph G with cycle matroid
isomorphic to M. In general, if there is one such graph, there will be many.
Zaslavsky has shown that frame matroids are precisely those having a
representation as a biased graph; this class includes graphic matroids,
bicircular matroids, and Dowling geometries. Whitney characterized which graphs
have isomorphic cycle matroids, and Matthews characterised which graphs have
isomorphic graphic bicircular matroids. In this paper, we give a
characterization of which biased graphs give rise to isomorphic graphic frame
matroids
