Gravitational-Wave Implications for the Parity Symmetry of Gravity at GeV Scale
Gravitational waves generated by the coalescence of compact binary open a new window to test the fundamental properties of gravity in the strong-field and dynamical regime. In this work, we focus on the parity symmetry of gravity which, if broken, can leave imprints on the waveform of gravitational wave. We construct generalized waveforms with amplitude and velocity birefringence due to parity violation in the effect field theory formalism, then analyze the open data of the ten binary black-hole merger events and the two binary neutron-star merger events detected by LIGO and Virgo collaboration. We do not find any signatures of violation of gravitational parity conservation, thereby setting the lower bound of the parity-violating energy scale to be GeV. This presents the first observational evidence of the parity conservation of gravity at high energy scale, about 17 orders of magnitude tighter than the constraints from the Solar system tests and binary pulsar observation. The third-generation gravitational-wave detector is capable of probing the parity-violating energy scale at GeV

Hybrid Prototypes to Assist Modeling Automotive Seats
The development of new modular seats is an important issue in the automotive industry.
However, is very time consuming and costly. Virtual models and hybrid prototypes could
accelerate the car seats development process. The hybrid prototypes are mainly manufactured by
rapid prototyping with multi materials. The objective of this paper is to establish a methodology
to develop innovative lightweight multi-functional, modular car seats to be used in Multi-Purpose
Vehicles (MPV), by means of FEA simulation and rapid prototyping additive/subtractive
technologies utilizing multi materials. A case study is presented to validate the developed
methodology. The manufactured hybrid prototype’s reproduces the main functionalities of the
MPV modular seat, namely its three key positions: normal, stored and table.Mechanical Engineerin
Characterisation of Medipix3 Silicon Detectors in a Charged-Particle Beam
While designed primarily for X-ray imaging applications, the Medipix3 ASIC
can also be used for charged-particle tracking. In this work, results from a
beam test at the CERN SPS with irradiated and non-irradiated sensors are
presented and shown to be in agreement with simulation, demonstrating the
suitability of the Medipix3 ASIC as a tool for characterising pixel sensors.Comment: 16 pages, 13 figure
Two-step Bayesian Structure Health Monitoring Approach for IASC-ASCE Phase II Simulated and Experimental Benchmark Studies
This report uses a two-step probabilistic structural health monitoring approach to analyze the Phase II simulated and experimental benchmark studies sponsored by the IASC-ASCE Task Group on Structural Health Monitoring. The studies involve damage detection and assessment of the test structure using simulated ambient-vibration data and experimental data generated by various excitations. The two-step approach involves modal identification followed by damage assessment using the pre- and post-damage modal parameters based on the Bayesian updating methodology. An Expectation-Maximization algorithm is proposed to find the most probable values of the parameters. The results of the analysis show that the probabilistic approach is able to detect and assess most damage locations involving stiffness losses of braces in the braced frame cases, while the success of the approach in detecting rotational stiffness losses of the beam-column connections in the untraced cases may rely on sufficient prior information for the column stiffness
Temperature Dependence Calibration and Correction of the DAMPE BGO Electromagnetic Calorimeter
A BGO electromagnetic calorimeter (ECAL) is built for the DArk Matter
Particle Explorer (DAMPE) mission. The effect of temperature on the BGO ECAL
was investigated with a thermal vacuum experiment. The light output of a BGO
crystal depends on temperature significantly. The temperature coefficient of
each BGO crystal bar has been calibrated, and a correction method is also
presented in this paper
