Abstract — The focus of this paper is to investigate the feasibility of using programmable DSP processors for MIMO based radio systems. Several detection algorithms were evaluated and MIPS costs for low complexity detection and channel estimation algorithms for OFDM-VBLAST MIMO systems where calculated. Based on the MIPS cost estimation a feasible hardware architecture was derived. The result shows the feasibility of implementing MIMO radio systems in a programmable architecture. I
