A qualitative study of the relationship of personality type with career management and career choice preference in a group of bioscience postgraduate students and postdoctoral researchers
This study reports on the career management and career choice preferences of a
sample of bioscience postgraduate students and postdoctoral researchers according
to their personality type as determined using the Myers Briggs Type Indicator
(MBTI). Correlations can be found but other decision-making processes come into
play and are more influential regarding career choice
The relationship between the Keirsey Temperament Sorter and the short-form Revised Eysenck Personality Questionnaire
The two models of personality proposed by the Keirsey Temperament Sorter (KTS) and by the short-form Revised Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQR-S) both propose measures of extraversion-introversion, but in other respects the two models are quite different. While the KTS proposes measures of sensing-intuition, thinking-feeling, and judging-perceiving, the EPQR-S proposes measures of neuroticism, psychoticism, and a lie scale. In order to test the comparability of the two indices of extraversion-introversion and the independence of the other constructs, a sample of 554 undergraduate students attending a university-sector college in South Wales, in the United Kingdom, completed the KTS and the EPQR-S. The data demonstrate that the Keirsey Temperament Sorter scales map in quite a complex way onto the model of personality proposed by the EPQR-S
A Preliminary Study on Sensory-Processing Sensitivity and Word Association
Sensory-processing sensitivity is a personality trait of processing information (e.g. auditory, visual, tactile, olfactory) more strongly and deeply than others. Previous research has found individuals with high sensory-processing sensitivity (highly sensitive person: HSP) have a personality with intuitive dominant function categorized by Carl Jung. The present study investigated the hypothesis if the highly sensitive persons have a tendency to imagine intuitive words on word association test. University students (N = 15) were asked to take part in the Watchword technique (Daniels, 1992). After that, they completed the Highly Sensitive Person Scale-Short form and Nine-item Empath Scale. Results showed that there was no difference between high and low HSP groups in the number of intuitive words, but individuals with high sensory-processing sensitivity felt right about interpretations of watchword keys. Further research is needed to confirm and expand these findings.感覚処理感受性は聴覚・視覚・触覚・嗅覚などの情報を強く深く処理する人格特性である。これまでの研究によると,感覚処理感受性の高い人(高敏感者)は,カール・ユングの性格論でいう直感が主機能だといわれる。そこで本研究では,感覚処理感受性の高い人は,言語連想検査において直感的なワードを想像しやすいかどうかを検討した。大学生の参加者 (N = 15) がウォッチワード・テクニック (Daniels, 1992) を体験したのち,高敏感者尺度とエンパス尺度を評定した。その結果,直感ワードの頻度は,高敏感者尺度の高低群で違いはなかったが,高敏感者尺度やエンパス尺度が高いほど,ウォッチワード・キーの解釈をぴったりくると感じていた。これらの結果を考察するためには,さらなる研究が必要である

Shy or sociable : introversion/extraversion and message recall
textPersonality research has long been an area of interest in the study of consumer behavior. Currently, common practice is to segment prospective audiences by demographic variables (age, gender, and race) instead of psychographics (values, attitudes, personality). In this research, the author investigates the relationship between personality type (introversion/extraversion) and message recall. Using 122 undergraduate and graduate students, recall was examined across two forms of stimulus (incongruent and congruent messages). Results indicated that while there is no relationship between personality type and message recall, there is a relationship between the frequency of advertising messaging and recall. Results are discussed individually by messaging frequency and personality type with further suggestions for future research.Advertisin
Role of metal-dependent regulation of ESX-3 secretion in intracellular survival of Mycobacterium tuberculosis
More people die every year from Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection than from infection by any other bacterial pathogen. Type VII secretion systems (T7SS) are used by both environmental and pathogenic mycobacteria to secrete proteins across their complex cell envelope. In the nonpathogen Mycobacterium smegmatis, the ESX-1 T7SS plays a role in conjugation, and the ESX-3 T7SS is involved in metal homeostasis. In M. tuberculosis, these secretion systems have taken on roles in virulence, and they also are targets of the host immune response. ESX-3 secretes a heterodimer composed of EsxG (TB9.8) and EsxH (TB10.4), which impairs phagosome maturation in macrophages and is essential for virulence in mice. Given the importance of EsxG and EsxH during infection, we examined their regulation. With M. tuberculosis, the secretion of EsxG and EsxH was regulated in response to iron and zinc, in accordance with the previously described transcriptional response of the esx-3 locus to these metals. While iron regulated the esx-3 expression in both M. tuberculosis and M. smegmatis, there is a significant difference in the dynamics of this regulation. In M. smegmatis, the esx-3 locus behaved like other iron-regulated genes such as mbtB. In M. tuberculosis, both iron and zinc modestly repressed esx-3 expression. Diminished secretion of EsxG and EsxH in response to these metals altered the interaction of M. tuberculosis with macrophages, leading to impaired intracellular M. tuberculosis survival. Our findings detail the regulatory differences of esx-3 in M. tuberculosis and M. smegmatis and demonstrate the importance of metal-dependent regulation of ESX-3 for virulence in M. tuberculosis

However, an organization can't be innovative if it doesn't counts with creative people and build teams to strength its creative and innovative capabilities. Besides, the impact of technology in innovation has been widely studied but there are others major aspects that need more exploration to understand their influence in it. For example, collaborative work, multicultural teamwork, creative teamwork, entrepreneurial behavior, etc. Some authors suggest more research is needed regarding organization capabilities that promote effective relationships for innovation. According to West (2002), three issues dominated research about creativity and innovation among teams: the characteristics of group tasks and their impact in the creative-innovative process; the role of diversity in knowledge and skills between team members; and team integration. If these issues are relevant for team creativity and innovation, then frameworks and tools to configure teams are necessary. It may be taken by granted that there must be an equilibrium of roles within teams to foster creativity focused on innovation. So, in this paper several approaches of creativity are reviewed. Then a conceptual model to foster Team Equilibrium and strength innovation performance is proposed and applied through a web-based tool. A first empiric exploration is presented. Beyond The Book: Promoting Effective Research
In the past library professionals have primarily collected and provided access to materials; however, this paper will argue that we must now go beyond access or Beyond the Book. One way to do this is to learn about the information search process and then assume a new and more assertive role as a research advisor. We need to change our patrons \u27expectations so that they see us as knowledgeable about sources, yes, but also as experts on effective research as a process of discovery. Three relevant information search process models are covered, as well as the way people vary in their learning styles and thus approaches to research
Role of Cognitive Style of a Manager in the Development of Tourism Companies’ Dynamic Capabilities
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between cognitive styles of managers working in tourism companies and dynamic capabilities of these companies.
Design – The research relies on a quantitative questionnaire.
Methodology – To answer the research question, the bivariate (Pearson) correlation was applied. A number of 268 answers from people working in tourism were received.
Findings – We found a positive correlation between different dimensions of dynamic capabilities of tourism companies. These capabilities are influenced by managers’ cognitive characteristics.
The organizational culture plays a mediating role in the latter relationship.
Implications for theory – The paper offers an alternative understanding of dynamic capabilities in tourism and hospitality; the paper also opens new paths for academic research on the impact of cognitive characteristics of managers on the dynamic capabilities of tourism companies.
Implications for practitioners – Making accurate psychological portrait of the candidate can predict his/her behavior in certain situation, such as response towards environmental change using dynamic capabilities and when making the necessary changes to the organizational culture.
Originality – This study proposes model of influence of a manager’s cognitive style on dynamic capabilities, whereby organizational culture moderates this relationship
