Constantinus Lascaris Anthologicus An epigrammatic collection in Homerum in the Matritensis 4629 (Mt)
Our paper aims to take a closer look at a collection of epigrams extracted from the Planudean, one of the several epigrammatic collections that, as far as we know, have not yet received the independent and particular attention we think it deserves. They are 26 epigrams on Homer and his two main poems copied in Matr. 4629 (ff. 177v-180r = Mt), twelve of them once again copied in Matr. 4562 (ff. 110r-111r = M), whose possible manuscript sources are to be investigated, as well as the possible connections to the editio princeps of the Planudea (1494)
Grothendieck quantaloids for allegories of enriched categories
For any small involutive quantaloid Q we define, in terms of symmetric
quantaloid-enriched categories, an involutive quantaloid Rel(Q) of Q-sheaves
and relations, and a category Sh(Q) of Q-sheaves and functions; the latter is
equivalent to the category of symmetric maps in the former. We prove that
Rel(Q) is the category of relations in a topos if and only if Q is a modular,
locally localic and weakly semi-simple quantaloid; in this case we call Q a
Grothendieck quantaloid. It follows that Sh(Q) is a Grothendieck topos whenever
Q is a Grothendieck quantaloid. Any locale L is a Grothendieck quantale, and
Sh(L) is the topos of sheaves on L. Any small quantaloid of closed cribles is a
Grothendieck quantaloid, and if Q is the quantaloid of closed cribles in a
Grothendieck site (C,J) then Sh(Q) is equivalent to the topos Sh(C,J). Any
inverse quantal frame is a Grothendieck quantale, and if O(G) is the inverse
quantal frame naturally associated with an \'etale groupoid G then Sh(O(G)) is
the classifying topos of G.Comment: 28 pages, final versio
On the use of Fixed Trip Matrices for the Evaluation of Urban Highway Schemes
This paper begins with a summary of the theoretical background to the question of fixed or variable trip matrices and briefly reviews current UK advice and practice. The main bulk of the paper is a review of published evidence as to whether network improvements do or do not affect trip matrices. The conclusion is that there is strong evidence of local land use changes, particularly adjacent to major new intersections or access points. However, it is clear that any new development is dependent on the existence of a capacity for relocation or growth in the local economy and a not unfavourable stance by the local planning authority. In the absence of new land development, however, there is little published evidence of changes in trip matrices following network improvements. The conclusion drawn from this evidence, from public interest in the question of generated traffic, and from the lack of reliable forecasting models, is that sensitivity analyses should be carried out to determine the possible effects of changes in the trip matrix before any decision is taken to ignore them
The relationship between corporate governance attributes and firm performance
A number of studies, particularly in developed countries, had been carried out to
explore the relationship between corporate governance and firm performance.
Since, the value creation of corporate governance can be measured through the
firm performance, corporate governance act as a mechanism to align management's
goals with the stakeholders especially to increase firm performance. Despite
extensive study of corporate governance there are still inconsistencies in the link
between corporate governance and firm performance. Therefore, the aim of this
research is to explore the relationship between corporate governance attributes and
firm performance in Malaysia Public Listed Companies. To do so five corporate
governance components was used as independent variables include: Independent
director, board size, audit committee, leadership structure and board meeting.
While the dependent variables are two firm performance measurements; return on
equity (ROE) and earning per share (EPS). Based on a random stratified sampling
eight hundred thirty one (831) listed companies from main board of Bursa
Malaysia for the year 2009, 2010 and 2011 were selected as samples of the study.
The data gathered from Annual Reports of the companies have been entered into
Excel Spread Sheet, then were analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social
Sciences (SPSS) program. Three types of data analyses have been performed;
descriptive, T-test and Spearman correlation. The study discovered that,
independent non-executive directors has an influence on earnings per share, board
size has an influence on return on equity and earnings per share and also audit
committee has an influence on earnings per share, leadership structure has an
influence on return on equity and board meeting also has an influence on earnings
per share. The results on the relationship between the firm performance and
corporate governance mechanism suggest a positive relationship between return on
equity and earnings per share as per the hypothesis testing. Therefore, the results
also show that good corporate governance enforcement influence firm
performance. Finally, no single theory offers a complete explanation of board
characteristics-firm performance relationship, but rather rudiments of each theory
can be seen to apply in different situations
NASA/MSFC NASTRAN auxiliary I/O routines
Since the initial installation of NASTRAN on the UNIVAC 1100/82 computer at the Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC), a number of local codes have been incorporated as user routines. This paper describes four of these codes and how interested users may obtain additional information
A Note on the Automorphism Group of the Bielawski-Pidstrygach Quiver
We show that there exists a morphism between a group
introduced by G. Wilson and a quotient of the group of tame symplectic
automorphisms of the path algebra of a quiver introduced by Bielawski and
Pidstrygach. The latter is known to act transitively on the phase space
of the Gibbons-Hermsen integrable system of rank 2, and we
prove that the subgroup generated by the image of
together with a particular tame symplectic automorphism has the property that,
for every pair of points of the regular and semisimple locus of
, the subgroup contains an element sending the first point
to the second
