Articulation-aware Canonical Surface Mapping
We tackle the tasks of: 1) predicting a Canonical Surface Mapping (CSM) that
indicates the mapping from 2D pixels to corresponding points on a canonical
template shape, and 2) inferring the articulation and pose of the template
corresponding to the input image. While previous approaches rely on keypoint
supervision for learning, we present an approach that can learn without such
annotations. Our key insight is that these tasks are geometrically related, and
we can obtain supervisory signal via enforcing consistency among the
predictions. We present results across a diverse set of animal object
categories, showing that our method can learn articulation and CSM prediction
from image collections using only foreground mask labels for training. We
empirically show that allowing articulation helps learn more accurate CSM
prediction, and that enforcing the consistency with predicted CSM is similarly
critical for learning meaningful articulation.Comment: To appear at CVPR 2020, project page

Multi-Image Semantic Matching by Mining Consistent Features
This work proposes a multi-image matching method to estimate semantic
correspondences across multiple images. In contrast to the previous methods
that optimize all pairwise correspondences, the proposed method identifies and
matches only a sparse set of reliable features in the image collection. In this
way, the proposed method is able to prune nonrepeatable features and also
highly scalable to handle thousands of images. We additionally propose a
low-rank constraint to ensure the geometric consistency of feature
correspondences over the whole image collection. Besides the competitive
performance on multi-graph matching and semantic flow benchmarks, we also
demonstrate the applicability of the proposed method for reconstructing
object-class models and discovering object-class landmarks from images without
using any annotation.Comment: CVPR 201
DCTM: Discrete-Continuous Transformation Matching for Semantic Flow
Techniques for dense semantic correspondence have provided limited ability to
deal with the geometric variations that commonly exist between semantically
similar images. While variations due to scale and rotation have been examined,
there lack practical solutions for more complex deformations such as affine
transformations because of the tremendous size of the associated solution
space. To address this problem, we present a discrete-continuous transformation
matching (DCTM) framework where dense affine transformation fields are inferred
through a discrete label optimization in which the labels are iteratively
updated via continuous regularization. In this way, our approach draws
solutions from the continuous space of affine transformations in a manner that
can be computed efficiently through constant-time edge-aware filtering and a
proposed affine-varying CNN-based descriptor. Experimental results show that
this model outperforms the state-of-the-art methods for dense semantic
correspondence on various benchmarks
A Cross-Season Correspondence Dataset for Robust Semantic Segmentation
In this paper, we present a method to utilize 2D-2D point matches between
images taken during different image conditions to train a convolutional neural
network for semantic segmentation. Enforcing label consistency across the
matches makes the final segmentation algorithm robust to seasonal changes. We
describe how these 2D-2D matches can be generated with little human interaction
by geometrically matching points from 3D models built from images. Two
cross-season correspondence datasets are created providing 2D-2D matches across
seasonal changes as well as from day to night. The datasets are made publicly
available to facilitate further research. We show that adding the
correspondences as extra supervision during training improves the segmentation
performance of the convolutional neural network, making it more robust to
seasonal changes and weather conditions.Comment: In Proc. CVPR 201
