    How are science teachers using their TELA laptop?

    The Digital Horizons: Laptops for teachers scheme provides teachers whose schools opt into the TELA scheme access to a laptop for their exclusive use. This paper reports on a three-year evaluation of the impact of the TELA laptops on teachers’ work. The findings of the evaluation suggest teachers are making substantial use of the laptop for tasks such as lesson planning and preparation, reporting to parents and communication with colleagues. Teachers are making some use of the laptop in the classroom for teaching and learning. Science teachers are amongst the most active users of the laptops and the paper details how ongoing access to a laptop changed the way a third year science teacher planned for teaching and subsequently his interactions with students during lessons. Colleagues and the science head of department noted that the teacher provided a role model for what was possible. This case study highlights the importance of leadership and collaboration in supporting the integration of ICT into science teaching and learning

    Laptops for teachers: An evaluation of the TELA scheme in schools (Years 1 to 3)

    The purpose of this evaluation is to investigate the impacts of the Laptops for Teachers Scheme: TELA (referred to from here as the TELA scheme) on teachers’ work over a period of three years (2006, 2007, 2008) and to record emerging changes in laptop use. This evaluation report presents findings from the three annual cycles of national focus groups and questionnaires with Years 1 to 3 teachers in New Zealand primary schools. In this evaluation, two methods of data collection were used: first, three focus groups were held with teachers in face-to-face meetings and second, a questionnaire was sent to teachers in a range of schools. The focus groups allowed teachers to talk about changes in their use of the laptop over the three years. Focus groups were held in the Taranaki, Wellington and Marlborough areas. The questionnaire asked teachers about various aspects of their laptops experience, including school support for laptops, professional development, their use of laptops at home and in school, and their goals for future use. In this final report, questionnaire results are presented together with the results from the focus groups held over three years

This research aims to determine the influence of product reviews on brand awareness on Axioo Pongo laptops, determine the influence of warranties on brand awareness on Axioo Pongo laptops, and determine the influence of product reviews and warranties on brand awareness on Axioo Pongo laptops. This research was conducted on Instagram followers of the Calosastore Malang. The method used in this research is quantitative. The approach used in this research is a descriptive approach. This research uses multiple linear regression analysis methods. The tool used to test instruments and process data is the SPSS 26 program. The results of this research are that product reviews have a partially significant effect on Axioo Pongo brand awareness, warranties have a partially significant effect on Axioo Pongo brand awareness, and product reviews and warranties have a partially significant effect. simultaneously on Axioo Pongo brand awareness

    Laptop theft: a case study on effectiveness of security mechanisms in open organizations

    Organizations rely on physical, technical and procedural mechanisms to protect their physical assets. Of all physical assets, laptops are the probably the most troublesome to protect, since laptops are easy to remove and conceal. Organizations open to the public, such as hospitals and universities, are easy targets for laptop thieves, since every day hundreds of people not employed by the organization wander in the premises. The problem security professionals face is how to protect the laptops in such open organizations. \ud \ud In this study, we look at the eectiveness of the security mechanisms against laptop theft in two universities. We analyze the logs from laptop thefts in both universities and complement the results with penetration tests. The results from the study show that surveillance cameras and access control have a limited role in the security of the organization and that the level of security awareness of the employees plays the biggest role in stopping theft. The results of this study are intended to aid security professionals in the prioritization of security mechanisms

    A Pilot Evaluation Study Using LectureTools to Enhance Interactivity in Classroom-Based Teaching in a Project Management Course

    With students’ ownership of laptops and mobile devices increasing, there exists an opportunity to harness their use to support interactivity within the traditional classroom. Two educators, motivated to enhance interactivity in a two-day project management course at a UK university, trialled LectureTools, a cloud-based audience-response system. To assess potential benefits to learning and teaching, as well as identifying accompanying challenges, an evaluation study was carried out comprising a range of data sources. These included observation of a LectureTools-based lecture and a student questionnaire followed by a focus group discussion with a subset of students about their experiences throughout the two days. Interviews with both teachers were also conducted, adding to the evaluation research data and giving them an opportunity to reflect on their teaching practice. All participants recognised the benefits of LectureTools in promoting student engagement, learning and discussion while students acknowledged the distractive potential of having laptops in the lecture theatre. Efforts are required by educators to ensure that the interactive potential of laptops in classrooms to enhance learning and teaching is supported while controlling the potential for distraction. Future research is needed to ascertain the impact of using LectureTools on approaches to learning and teaching

    Donald Matheson (2003) writes of war correspondents ‘scowling at their notebooks’, and this is not meant as caricature but the corporeal expression of an epistemological orientation to the world in which facts have to be wrestled into submission. This article takes a phenomenological approach to ask whether there is a distinct orientation of citizen journalism and blogging, exploring the corporeal, temporal and spatial aspects of non-professional practices of media production.
