In the realm of healthcare, the utilization of clinical decision support systems (CDSSs) has become increasingly prevalent as a means of providing medical professionals with a computer-based tool that grants them access to pertinent data and expertise, thereby aiding in their ability to make informed clinical decisions. The potential applications of a CDSS are numerous, ranging from disease diagnosis and the creation of treatment programs, to patient progress monitoring. A crucial component of a CDSS is its knowledge base, which comprises the data utilized by the system to generate recommendations and provide feedback to healthcare providers. In an effort to enhance the knowledge base of a CDSS for a particular clinical condition, metaheuristic methods such as Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) can be employed to select the most suitable and applicable data. ACO facilitates the identification of the portion of a CDSS's knowledge base that is most likely to result in the optimal clinical decision, from among the vast array of data that it may contain. This study aims to explore the potential benefits of utilizing ACO methods in CDSSs for the betterment of patient care. The paper outlines the design and implementation of an ACO-based CDSS, which can offer tailored treatment plans for patients based on their medical histories and current condition

Information technology playing a prominent role in the field of medical by incorporating the Clinical Decision Support System(CDSS) in their routine practices. CDSS is a computer based interactive program to assist the physician to make the right decision at the right time. Now a day's Clinical decision support system is a dynamic research area in the field of computer, but the lack of the knowledge of the understanding as well as the functioning of the system ,make the adoption slow by the physician and patient. The literature review of this paper will focus on the overview of legacy CDSS, the kind of methodologies and classifier employed to prepare such decision support system using a non-technical approach to the physician and the strategy- makers . This study will provide the scope of understanding the clinical decision support along with the gateway to physician ,policy-makers to develop and deploy the decision support system as a healthcare service to make the quick, agile and right decision. Future direction to handle the uncertainties along with the challenges of clinical decision support system are also enlightened in this study

A Tailored Ontology Supporting Sensor Implementation for the Maintenance of Industrial Machines

International audienceThe longtime productivity of an industrial machine is improved by condition-based maintenance strategies. To do this, the integration of sensors and other cyber-physical devices is necessary in order to capture and analyze a machine's condition through its lifespan. Thus, choosing the best sensor is a critical step to ensure the efficiency of the maintenance process. Indeed, considering the variety of sensors, and their features and performance, a formal classification of a sensor's domain knowledge is crucial. This classification facilitates the search for and reuse of solutions during the design of a new maintenance service. Following a Knowledge Management methodology, the paper proposes and develops a new sensor ontology that structures the domain knowledge, covering both theoretical and experimental sensor attributes. An industrial case study is conducted to validate the proposed ontology and to demonstrate its utility as a guideline to ease the search of suitable sensors. Based on the ontology, the final solution will be implemented in a shared repository connected to legacy CAD (computer-aided design) systems. The selection of the best sensor is, firstly, obtained by the matching of application requirements and sensor specifications (that are proposed by this sensor repository). Then, it is refined from the experimentation results. The achieved solution is recorded in the sensor repository for future reuse. As a result, the time and cost of the design process of new condition-based maintenance services is reduced

Knowledge-Based Query Construction Using the CDSS Knowledge Base for Efficient Evidence Retrieval

Finding appropriate evidence to support clinical practices is always challenging, and the construction of a query to retrieve such evidence is a fundamental step. Typically, evidence is found using manual or semi-automatic methods, which are time-consuming and sometimes make it difficult to construct knowledge-based complex queries. To overcome the difficulty in constructing knowledge-based complex queries, we utilized the knowledge base (KB) of the clinical decision support system (CDSS), which has the potential to provide sufficient contextual information. To automatically construct knowledge-based complex queries, we designed methods to parse rule structure in KB of CDSS in order to determine an executable path and extract the terms by parsing the control structures and logic connectives used in the logic. The automatically constructed knowledge-based complex queries were executed on the PubMed search service to evaluate the results on the reduction of retrieved citations with high relevance. The average number of citations was reduced from 56,249 citations to 330 citations with the knowledge-based query construction approach, and relevance increased from 1 term to 6 terms on average. The ability to automatically retrieve relevant evidence maximizes efficiency for clinicians in terms of time, based on feedback collected from clinicians. This approach is generally useful in evidence-based medicine, especially in ambient assisted living environments where automation is highly important
