Usage Effects on the Cognitive Routinization of Chinese Resultative Verbs

    Get PDF
The present study adopts a corpus-oriented usage-based approach to the grammar of Chinese resultative verbs. Zooming in on a specific class of V-kai constructions, this paper aims to elucidate the effect of frequency in actual usage events on shaping the linguistic representations of resultative verbs. Specifically, it will be argued that while high token frequency results in more lexicalized V-kai complex verbs, high type frequency gives rise to more schematized V-kai constructions. The routinized patterns pertinent to V-kai resultative verbs varying in their extent of specificity and generality accordingly serve as a representative illustration of the continuum between lexicon and grammar that characterizes a usage-based conception of language

    Statistical switching kinetics in ferroelectrics

By assuming a more realistic nucleation and polarization reversal scenario we build a new statistical switching model for ferroelectrics, which is different from either the Kolmogorov-Avrami-Ishibashi (KAI) model or the Nucleation-Limited-Switching (NLS) model. After incorporating a time-dependent depolarization field this model gives a good description about the retardation behavior in polycrystalline thin films at medium or low fields, which can not be described by the traditional KAI model. This model predicts correctly n=1 for polycrystalline thin films at high Eappl or ceramic bulks in the ideal case

Whāriki : beyond simple : an exhibition report presented as partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Masters of Māori Visual Arts, Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand

This thesis/exhibition report is an explication of the significance and relationship of Kai rāranga, rāranga whāriki and their relationship with whānau, hapū and iwi. It explores the impetus behind and relationships important in, and to the production of whāriki. Through the exploration of these relationships the necessity for whāriki wānanga throughout Aotearoa and having wānanga as the preferred medium of imparting knowledge pertaining to rāranga whāriki and for continuity in the production of whāriki is emphasised. It touches on the Māori convention of tono that facilitates interaction between the Kai rārangaresearcher and the Kai tono-researched negating the sometimes invasive convention of ethics approval and formalised contractual obligations. It follows the pathway of author and Kai rāranga, Te Hemo Ata Henare’s, coming to be of her mahi whāriki practice. It is an intimate account that extends from function and technique to foundational connectivity to the wider roopu whāriki and those who have preceded us with templates of excellence that recognise the importance of the whakapapa of Māori whakaaro, our epochs and eons of transcendent time and the interconnectedness of all things in and through these patterned processes (Jackson, 2013; Marsden, 2003; Tamanui, 2013). As Karani Sonny Pāpuni said; “…you take this whāriki home with you and then a piece of us will always be with your whānau” (Mate ki Tātahi [Sonny] Pāpuni, personal communication, May 17 1991). A clear objective emerging out of this research exercise was to produce a body of work in the form of an exhibition of whāriki and to produce a pictorial and written explication of the process and praxis of whāriki wānanga. However, through the research process, I was returned; i hoki atu ki te timatatanga ō oku mahi, so I could come to know and be. The theme that emerges through rāranga whāriki is the inseparability and the multiplicity of whakapapa and/or whanaungatanga that the Kai rāranga embodies essential for the continuation of the praxis of rāranga whāriki that can only be described as extraordinarily ‘Beyond Simple’

Problem: App-based train ticket reservation systems, such as KAI Access, have experienced rapid growth as an efficient and popular method for obtaining travel tickets online. While KAI Access, as the official application of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), provides convenience in ticket booking, its popularity has also revealed several challenges. Limited payment options, lack of information regarding train routes, delay information, and the absence of booking navigation pose challenges that need to be addressed. Therefore, further research is needed to enhance the user experience by addressing these challenges. Method: This study aims to conduct a needs analysis using the UX Journey method to identify user requirements, with a focus on developing design solutions that align with user needs. Results: The research results indicate a significant improvement in behavior variables before and after the development of design solutions. In the first variable, the ease of making payments increased from 20% to 100%. The second variable, ease of accessing information related to train arrival delays and details of the train route to be taken, increased from 52% to 92%. Furthermore, the third variable, ease of navigating the booking process, increased from 32% to 92%. Conclusion and Development: It is expected that through the development of design solutions by adding diverse payment options, interactive route map features, and navigation features, a positive contribution can be made to improving the user experience on the KAI Access application

Utilization of land assets of PT. KAI, shich aims to develop the potential and support of railway business activities. In fact today, there are many land utilization of PT. KAI is used for activities outside the railway. Therefore, a proper and ideal policy is needed, in order to achieve the land use in accordance with the prevailng land law. This study discusses the form and implementation of land assets pf PT. KAI by a third party and the legal validity of the consideration of PT. KAI provides the use of land for activities outside the railway. This paper is expected to contribute thoughts and PT. KAI guidelines in implementing the utilization of its asset land. This research is a legal research with empirical juridical research method, descriptive analysis research spesification. Data collection methods and techniques gained from primary data and secondary data. Methods of data analysis used the method of qualitative analysis. The conclusion in this research is the form of utilization of asset land by third party is, Buil Operate an Transfer (BOT), Buid Transfer and Operate (BTO), Joint Operation, Business Cooperation, Lease, Borrow.Utilization of asset land implemented by PT. KAI is by means of Lease and Giving of HGB above HPL. The reason for the utilization of land asset of PT. KAI beyond supporting business activities to optimize all existing assets, so that PT. KAI benefits and income from these lands. Utilization of land assets of PT. KAI outside railway activities is contrary to Article 44 of UUPA and is not accordance with the regulation of Directors of PT. KAI No. 023-VII/KAI/Dir.II/2002 so resulting in the act being null and void or considered to be non-existent

    Barker sequences of odd length

A Barker sequence is a binary sequence for which all nontrivial aperiodic autocorrelations are at most 1 in magnitude. An old conjecture due to Turyn asserts that there is no Barker sequence of length greater than 13. In 1961, Turyn and Storer gave an elementary, though somewhat complicated, proof that this conjecture holds for odd lengths. We give a new and simpler proof of this result.Comment: 6 pages, this note supersedes the main result of arXiv:1409.143
