Inducing Language Networks from Continuous Space Word Representations

Recent advancements in unsupervised feature learning have developed powerful latent representations of words. However, it is still not clear what makes one representation better than another and how we can learn the ideal representation. Understanding the structure of latent spaces attained is key to any future advancement in unsupervised learning. In this work, we introduce a new view of continuous space word representations as language networks. We explore two techniques to create language networks from learned features by inducing them for two popular word representation methods and examining the properties of their resulting networks. We find that the induced networks differ from other methods of creating language networks, and that they contain meaningful community structure.Comment: 14 page

Learning and predicting time series by neural networks

Artificial neural networks which are trained on a time series are supposed to achieve two abilities: firstly to predict the series many time steps ahead and secondly to learn the rule which has produced the series. It is shown that prediction and learning are not necessarily related to each other. Chaotic sequences can be learned but not predicted while quasiperiodic sequences can be well predicted but not learned.Comment: 5 page

Deep Recurrent Generative Decoder for Abstractive Text Summarization

We propose a new framework for abstractive text summarization based on a sequence-to-sequence oriented encoder-decoder model equipped with a deep recurrent generative decoder (DRGN). Latent structure information implied in the target summaries is learned based on a recurrent latent random model for improving the summarization quality. Neural variational inference is employed to address the intractable posterior inference for the recurrent latent variables. Abstractive summaries are generated based on both the generative latent variables and the discriminative deterministic states. Extensive experiments on some benchmark datasets in different languages show that DRGN achieves improvements over the state-of-the-art methods.Comment: 10 pages, EMNLP 201
