    Personalized Online Advertisements as A Means of Enhancing Purchase Intention:The Mediating Effect of Advertising Value

    The high number of online shopping transactions and the rapid increase in internet users in Indonesia has encouraged many marketers to advertise their products online. The growth of online advertising can no longer be limited or dammed, so efforts to increase the effectiveness of online advertising is a big challenge for marketers. Personalized advertising is one of the innovations that aim to increase the effectiveness of online advertising. This study combines models of web advertising, traditional advertising, smartphone advertising, personalization, and advertising value to understand how the process of personalization in online advertising influences purchase intention. Based on the results of the integration, researchers hypothesize that the advertising value mediates the relationship between personalization of online advertising and purchase intention. This study involved 327 respondents consisting of internet users in Jabodetabek by distributing questionnaires online. Data were analyzed by regression analysis using SPSS 22.0. The results show that personalization significantly influences purchase intention, personalization is significantly related to advertising value, advertising value is significantly related to purchase intention and the relationship between personalization and purchase intention is fully mediated by advertising value

    Adaptive Information Visualization for Personalized Access to Educational Digital Libraries

    Personalization is one of the emerging ways to increase the power of modern Digital Libraries. The Knowledge Sea II system presented in this paper explores social navigation support, an approach for providing personalized guidance within the open corpus of educational resources. Following the concepts of social navigation we have attempted to organize a personalized navigation support that is based on past learners’ interaction with the system. The study indicates that Knowledge Sea II became the students' primary tool for accessing the open corpus documents used in a programming course. The social navigation support implemented in this system was considered useful by students participating in the study of Knowledge Sea II. At the same time, some user comments indicated the need to provide more powerful navigational support, such as the ability to rank the usefulness of a page

    Discovering the Impact of Knowledge in Recommender Systems: A Comparative Study

    Recommender systems engage user profiles and appropriate filtering techniques to assist users in finding more relevant information over the large volume of information. User profiles play an important role in the success of recommendation process since they model and represent the actual user needs. However, a comprehensive literature review of recommender systems has demonstrated no concrete study on the role and impact of knowledge in user profiling and filtering approache. In this paper, we review the most prominent recommender systems in the literature and examine the impression of knowledge extracted from different sources. We then come up with this finding that semantic information from the user context has substantial impact on the performance of knowledge based recommender systems.     Using thematic ontologies for user- and group- based adaptive personalization in web searching

    This paper presents Prospector, an adaptive meta-search layer, which performs personalized re-ordering of search results. Prospector combines elements from two approaches to adaptive search support: (a) collaborative web searching; and, (b) personalized searching using semantic metadata. The paper focuses on the way semantic metadata and the users’ search behavior are utilized for user- and group- modeling, as well as on how these models are used to re-rank results returned for individual queries. The paper also outlines past evaluation activities related to Prospector, and discusses potential applications of the approach for the adaptive retrieval of multimedia documents

    Today, a consistent part of our everyday interaction with art and aesthetic artefacts occurs through digital media, and our preferences and choices are systematically tracked and analyzed by algorithms in ways that are far from transparent. Our consumption is constantly documented, and then, we are fed back through tailored information. We are therefore witnessing the emergence of a complex interrelation between our aesthetic choices, their digital elaboration, and also the production of content and the dynamics of creative processes. All are involved in a process of mutual influences, and are partially determined by the invisible guiding hand of algorithms. With regard to this topic, this paper will introduce some key issues concerning the role of algorithms in aesthetic domains, such as taste detection and formation, cultural consumption and production, and showing how aesthetics can contribute to the ongoing debate about the impact of today’s “algorithmic culture”
