THE ELECTRONIC SIGNATURE (E-SIGN) IN THE INFORMATION SOCIETY

    Get PDF
This paper deals with the legislative and technical aspects, concerning the electronic signature and examples regarding the implementation of the e-sign software security solutions in the information society. One of the major problems the IT developers for complex systems have to deal with, is to provide the security of data and the information administered by these systems, as well as to certify their authentication by the electronic signature. The certification procedures and the encryption algorithms, used for the electronic signature are needed in today’s information society.e-sign, software security, information security, Decision Support System(DSS)

    The ATIS sign language corpus

Systems that automatically process sign language rely on appropriate data. We therefore present the ATIS sign language corpus that is based on the domain of air travel information. It is available for five languages, English, German, Irish sign language, German sign language and South African sign language. The corpus can be used for different tasks like automatic statistical translation and automatic sign language recognition and it allows the specific modelling of spatial references in signing space

The Biosemiotic Approach in Biology : Theoretical Bases and Applied Models

    Get PDF
Biosemiotics is a growing fi eld that investigates semiotic processes in the living realm in an attempt to combine the fi ndings of the biological sciences and semiotics. Semiotic processes are more or less what biologists have typically referred to as “ signals, ” “ codes, ”and “ information processing ”in biosystems, but these processes are here understood under the more general notion of semiosis, that is, the production, action, and interpretation of signs. Thus, biosemiotics can be seen as biology interpreted as a study of living sign systems — which also means that semiosis or sign process can be seen as the very nature of life itself. In other words, biosemiotics is a field of research investigating semiotic processes (meaning, signification, communication, and habit formation in living systems) and the physicochemical preconditions for sign action and interpretation. Tropical Cramer Determinants Revisited

We prove general Cramer type theorems for linear systems over various extensions of the tropical semiring, in which tropical numbers are enriched with an information of multiplicity, sign, or argument. We obtain existence or uniqueness results, which extend or refine earlier results of Gondran and Minoux (1978), Plus (1990), Gaubert (1992), Richter-Gebert, Sturmfels and Theobald (2005) and Izhakian and Rowen (2009). Computational issues are also discussed; in particular, some of our proofs lead to Jacobi and Gauss-Seidel type algorithms to solve linear systems in suitably extended tropical semirings.Comment: 41 pages, 5 Figure

Photon engineering for quantum information processing

We study distinguishing information in the context of quantum interference involving more than one parametric downconversion (PDC) source and in the context of polarization-entangled photon pairs based on PDC. We arrive at specific design criteria for two-photon sources so that when used as part of complex optical systems, such as photon-based quantum information processing schemes, distinguishing information between the photons is eliminated guaranteeing high visibility interference. We propose practical techniques which lead to suitably engineered two-photon states that can be realistically implemented with available technology. Finally, we study an implementation of the nonlinear-sign shift (NS) logic gate with PDC sources and show the effect of distinguishing information on the performance of the gate.Comment: 23 pages, 13 figures. submitted to Quantum Information & Computatio

    Thermodynamic curvature and black holes

I give a relatively broad survey of thermodynamic curvature RR, one spanning results in fluids and solids, spin systems, and black hole thermodynamics. RR results from the thermodynamic information metric giving thermodynamic fluctuations. RR has a unique status in thermodynamics as being a geometric invariant, the same for any given thermodynamic state. In fluid and solid systems, the sign of RR indicates the character of microscopic interactions, repulsive or attractive. R|R| gives the average size of organized mesoscopic fluctuating structures. The broad generality of thermodynamic principles might lead one to believe the same for black hole thermodynamics. This paper explores this issue with a systematic tabulation of results in a number of cases.Comment: 27 pages, 10 figures, 7 tables, 78 references.
