ANALYSIS OF POSSIBILITIES FOR THE USE OF VOLUME-DELAY FUNCTIONS IN THE PLANNING MODULE OF THE TRISTAR SYSTEM
Summary. Travel time is a measure commonly used for traffic flow modelling and traffic control. It also helps to evaluate the quality of traffic control systems in urban areas. Traffic control systems that use traffic models to predict changes and disruptions in vehicle flows have to use vehicle speed-prediction models. Travel time estimation studies the effects of traffic volumes on a street section at an average speed. The TRISTAR Integrated Transport Management System, currently being deployed across the Tri-City (Gdansk, Sopot, Gdynia), is almost completed and data obtained from the System can be useful for the development of prediction models. A procedure for travel speed model selection for the Tri-City street network is presented in this paper. Matching of chosen volume-delay functions to the data obtained from the TRISTAR has been tested. Analyses have shown insufficient matching of functions that does not justify the possibility of their use in traffic control due to variability in different conditions of traffic, weather and, in the case of an incident, which justifies the need for further research aimed at satisfying matching of functions depending on the above-mentioned factors

Global production networks in the aerospace industry: the role of risk and revenue sharing partnerships
The last 30 years have seen a major trend towards the internationalisation of production. In some industry sectors this process has become global as production systems have been integrated on an inter-continental basis. Global production networks have been identified as an important factor in this development. A number of studies have explored the use of global production networks in sectors such as clothing and textiles, electronics and automotive products. In general this research has been confined to consumer items that take the form of standardised, high volume commodities. This study in contrast, examines the use of global production networks by capital goods manufacturers producing non-standardised, high technology products in relatively small volumes. The context is the commercial aerospace industry and an in-depth case study of a single manufacturer, the UK based engine maker Rolls-Royce and the global production network used to develop and manufacture its Trent 1000 engine for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, is presented. The study focuses on the use of risk and revenue sharing partnerships (RRSPs), a form of inter-firm collaboration almost unique in the aerospace industry. It analyses the role of RRSPs in facilitating the creation and operation of global production networks and the driving forces that have led to the use of this form of cooperation. The implications of the move to global production networks are considered both for flagship firms at the centre of such networks and their partners
Multiple intelligences in a MultiAgent System applied to telecontrol
This paper presents a control system, based on artificial intelligence technologies, that implements
multiple intelligences. This system aims to support and improve automatic telecontrol of solar power
plants, by either automatically triggering actuators or dynamically giving recommendations to human
operators. For this purpose, the development of a MultiAgent System is combined with a variety of
inference systems, such as Expert Systems, Neural Networks, and Bayesian Networks. This diversity of
intelligent technologies is shown to result in an efficient way to mimic the reasoning process in human
