The Experimental plan of the 4m Resonant Sideband Extraction Prototype for The LCGT
The 4m Resonant Sideband Extraction (RSE) interferometer is a planned prototype of the LCGT interferometer. The aim of the experiment is to operate a powerrecycled Broadband RSE interferometer with suspended optics and to achieve diagonalization of length signals of the central part of the interferometer directly through the optical setup. Details of the 4m RSE interferometer control method as well as the design of the experimental setup will be presented
Test of the isotopic and velocity selectivity of a lithium atom interferometer by magnetic dephasing
A magnetic field gradient applied to an atom interferometer induces a
-dependent phase shift which results in a series of decays and revivals of
the fringe visibility. Using our lithium atom interferometer based on Bragg
laser diffraction, we have measured the fringe visibility as a function of the
applied gradient. We have thus tested the isotopic selectivity of the
interferometer, the velocity selective character of Bragg diffraction for
different diffraction orders as well as the effect of optical pumping of the
incoming atoms. All these observations are qualitatively understood but a
quantitative analysis requires a complete model of the interferometer
Charge Detection in a Closed-Loop Aharonov-Bohm Interferometer
We report on a study of complementarity in a two-terminal "closed-loop"
Aharonov-Bohm interferometer. In this interferometer, the simple picture of
two-path interference cannot be applied. We introduce a nearby quantum point
contact to detect the electron in a quantum dot inserted in the interferometer.
We found that charge detection reduces but does not completely suppress the
interference even in the limit of perfect detection. We attribute this
phenomenon to the unique nature of the closed-loop interferometer. That is, the
closed-loop interferometer cannot be simply regarded as a two-path
interferometer because of multiple reflections of electrons. As a result, there
exist indistinguishable paths of the electron in the interferometer and the
interference survives even in the limit of perfect charge detection. This
implies that charge detection is not equivalent to path detection in a
closed-loop interferometer. We also discuss the phase rigidity of the
transmission probability for a two-terminal conductor in the presence of a
detector.Comment: 4 pages with 4 figure
Interferometer
A high resolution interferometer is described. The interferometer is insensitive to slight misalignment of its elements, avoids channeling in the spectrum, generates a maximum equal path fringe contrast, produces an even two sided interferogram without critical matching of the wedge angles of the beamsplitter and compensator wedges, and is optically phase tunable. The interferometer includes a mirror along the path of each beam component produced by the beamsplitter, for reflecting the beam component from the beamsplitter, for reflecting the beam component from the beamsplitter to a corresponding retroreflector and for reflecting the beam returned by the retroreflector back to the beamsplitter. A wedge located along each beam component path, is large enough to cover the retroreflector, so that each beam component passes through the wedge during movement towards the retroreflector and away therefrom
Simulation tools for future interferometers
For the design and commissioning of the LIGO interferometer, simulation tools have been used explicitly and implicitly. The requirement of the advanced LIGO interferometer is much more demanding than the first generation interferometer. Development of revised simulation tools for future interferometers are underway in the LIGO Laboratory. The outline of those simulation tools and applications are discussed
Microwave interferometer controls cutting depth of plastics
Microwave interferometer system controls the cutting of plastic materials to a prescribed depth. The interferometer is mounted on a carriage with a spindle and cutting tool. A cross slide, mounted on the carriage, allows the interferometer and cutter to move toward or away from the plastic workpiece
