CHARDA: Causal Hybrid Automata Recovery via Dynamic Analysis
We propose and evaluate a new technique for learning hybrid automata
automatically by observing the runtime behavior of a dynamical system. Working
from a sequence of continuous state values and predicates about the
environment, CHARDA recovers the distinct dynamic modes, learns a model for
each mode from a given set of templates, and postulates causal guard conditions
which trigger transitions between modes. Our main contribution is the use of
information-theoretic measures (1)~as a cost function for data segmentation and
model selection to penalize over-fitting and (2)~to determine the likely causes
of each transition. CHARDA is easily extended with different classes of model
templates, fitting methods, or predicates. In our experiments on a complex
videogame character, CHARDA successfully discovers a reasonable
over-approximation of the character's true behaviors. Our results also compare
favorably against recent work in automatically learning probabilistic timed
automata in an aircraft domain: CHARDA exactly learns the modes of these

Sliding Mode Control for Trajectory Tracking of a Non-holonomic Mobile Robot using Adaptive Neural Networks
In this work a sliding mode control method for a non-holonomic mobile robot using an adaptive neural network is proposed. Due to this property and restricted mobility, the trajectory tracking of this system has been one of the research topics for the last ten years. The proposed control structure combines a feedback linearization model, based on a nominal kinematic model, and a practical design that combines an indirect neural adaptation technique with sliding mode control to compensate for the dynamics of the robot. A neural sliding mode controller is used to approximate the equivalent control in the neighbourhood of the sliding manifold, using an online adaptation scheme. A sliding control is appended to ensure that the neural sliding mode control can achieve a stable closed-loop system for the trajectory-tracking control of a mobile robot with unknown non-linear dynamics. Also, the proposed control technique can reduce the steady-state error using the online adaptive neural network with sliding mode control; the design is based on Lyapunov’s theory. A Learning-based Stochastic MPC Design for Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control to Handle Interfering Vehicles
Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) communication has a great potential to improve
reaction accuracy of different driver assistance systems in critical driving
situations. Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control (CACC), which is an automated
application, provides drivers with extra benefits such as traffic throughput
maximization and collision avoidance. CACC systems must be designed in a way
that are sufficiently robust against all special maneuvers such as cutting-into
the CACC platoons by interfering vehicles or hard braking by leading cars. To
address this problem, a Neural- Network (NN)-based cut-in detection and
trajectory prediction scheme is proposed in the first part of this paper. Next,
a probabilistic framework is developed in which the cut-in probability is
calculated based on the output of the mentioned cut-in prediction block.
Finally, a specific Stochastic Model Predictive Controller (SMPC) is designed
which incorporates this cut-in probability to enhance its reaction against the
detected dangerous cut-in maneuver. The overall system is implemented and its
performance is evaluated using realistic driving scenarios from Safety Pilot
