Mutu Kulit Glase Dari Kulit Domba Peranakan Merino
This research used four pieces of good quality merino descendent sheep skin and four pieces of good quality local sheep of glace leather produced from merino descendent sheep skin to that one from local sheep skin. Either merino descendent sheep skins or the local ones were processed into glase leather through the ordinary tanning method. Glace leather output from this research were visual investigated and physical tested. Statistical analysys points out that there is unsignify difference (P ≼ 0,05) the influence of the species either it is merino and the stretch of glaze leather. It is also unsignify difference (P ≼ 0,05) the influence of the species either it is merino descendent sheep skin or the local one to the quality of glaze leather.Pratical meaning of this research is that merino descendent sheep skin may be tanned into glaze leather having same quality to that one from local sheep skins
Bicycle helmet use and non-use - recently published research
Bicycle traumata are very common and especially neurologic complications lead to disability and death in all stages of the life. This review assembles the most recent findings concerning research in the field of bicycle traumata combined with the factor of bicycle helmet use. The area of bicycle trauma research is by nature multidisciplinary and relevant not only for physicians but also for experts with educational, engineering, judicial, rehabilitative or public health functions. Due to this plurality of global publications and special subjects, short time reviews help to detect recent research directions and provide also information from neighbour disciplines for researchers. It can be stated that to date, that although a huge amount of research has been conducted in this area more studies are needed to evaluate and improve special conditions and needs in different regions, ages, nationalities and to create successful prevention programs of severe head and face injuries while cycling. Focus was explicit the bicycle helmet use, wherefore sledding, ski and snowboard studies were excluded and only one study concerning electric bicycles remained due to similar motion structures within this review. The considered studies were all published between January 2010 and August 2011 and were identified via the online databases Medline PubMed and ISI Web of Science
Studi Perbandingan Mutu Kulit Jadi (Finished Leather) Yang Berasal Dari Kulit Yang Diawet Dengan Garam Dan Yang Diawetkan Dengan Sinar Matahari
The object of this study is to obtain the differences glace leather properties made from:a. Sun dried goat skinsb. Wet salted goat skinsc. And preserved for 1, 2 and 3 months successively, the curing and preservation of which is in accordance with BPK (KSI) method. The sample observed is 18 sides goat skins which are taken from a slaughted – house in Yogyakarta. 9 side of those are preserved by sun drying and the rest is wet salted, preserved for 3 months is accordance with BPK/KSI method of preservation.Out of the 1, 2 and 3 months preservation, 1 side of the dried and wet salted skins is taken and processed into glace leather according to BPK method with 2 replications. The tanned leather then is subjected to organoleptic, physical and chemical analyses. The study is carried out in 1 year. The chemical and organoleptic data are obtained from variance sub sample (£ < 0,05) CRD factorial analyses. Whereas the physical properties are analysed by variance sub sample (£ < 0,05) CRD factorial analyses. Whereas the physical properties are analysed by variance sub sample (£ < 0,05) CDR factorial and Duncan\u27s Test (£ < 0,05).The result of organoleptic analyses show that there is no different properties between glace leather mode from dried and wet salted goat skins (£ < 0,05) and the time of preservation used has no influence on the them (£ < 0,05).But there are differences on tensile strength and stretch properties between glace leather made from dried and wet salted skins (£ < 0,05) and the time of preservation used influnces on the them (£ < 0,05). *BPK = Balai Penelitian Kulit*KSI = Kulit Standar Industr

New Zealand bicycle helmet law - do the costs outweigh the benefits?
Objectives: This paper examines the cost effectiveness of the compulsory bicycle helmet wearing low (HWL) introduced in New Zealand on 1 January 1994. The societal perspective of costs is used for the purchase of helmets and the value of injuries averted. This is augmented with healthcare costs averted from reduced head injuries. Methods: Three age groups were examined: cyclists aged 5-12 years, 13-18 years, and greater than or equal to19 years. The number of head and non-head injuries averted were obtained from epidemiological studies. Estimates of the numbers of cyclists and the costs of helmets are used to derive the total spending on new bicycle helmets. Healthcare costs were obtained from national hospitalisation database, and the value of injuries averted was obtained directly from a willingness-to-pay survey undertaken by the Land Transport Safety Authority. Cost effectiveness ratios, benefit:cost ratios, and the value of net benefits were estimated. Results: The net benefit (benefit:cost ratios) of the HWL for the 5-12, 13-18, and greater than or equal to19 year age groups was 0.2m (0.8), and -, 2000 prices; NZ 0.47 = UK pound0.31 approx). These results were most sensitive to the cost and life of helmets, helmet wearing rates before the HWL, and the effectiveness of helmets in preventing head injuries. Conclusions: The HWL was cost saving in the youngest age group but large costs from the law were imposed on adult (greater than or equal to19 years) cyclists
"A most exquisite fellow" — William White and an Atlantic world perspective on the seventeenth-century chymical furnace
The seventeenth-century technologist and colonist William White (ca. 1600–73) has been cited as an alchemical tutor to Gabriel Plattes and George Starkey, and hailed as an early modern “wizard of industrial efficiency.” This study — the first that focuses on White individually — pays particular attention to White’s extraordinary reputation for furnace design and manufacture. By examining the sources of knowledge and social connections that enabled White to acquire and disseminate his knowledge of metallurgy, the authors develop a genealogy of fornacic design that extends from the continent to the Atlantic world and back again, connecting White to better known figures such as Cornelis Drebbel and Robert Boyle. By foregrounding, through White, the technology of early modern alchemy, the authors also hope to emphasise the importance of practical craft in the development of the chemical arts
Gallium arsenide (GaAs) power conversion concept
A summary design analysis of a GaAs power conversion system for the solar power satellite (SPS) is presented. Eight different satellite configuration options for the solar arrays are compared. Solar cell annealing effects after proton irradiation are considered. Mass estimates for the SPS and the effect of solar cell parameters on SPS array design are discussed
