ESO 603-G21: A strange polar-ring galaxy
We present the results of B, V, R surface photometry of ESO603-G21 - a galaxy
with a possible polar ring. The morphological and photometric features of this
galaxy are discussed. The central round object of the galaxy is rather red and
presents a nearly exponential surface brightness distribution. This central
structure is surrounded by a blue warped ring or disk. The totality of the
observed characteristics (optical and NIR colors, strong color gradients, HI
and H_2 content, FIR luminosity and star-formation rate, rotation-curve shape,
global mass-to-luminosity ratio, the agreement with the Tully-Fisher relation,
etc.) shows that ESO603-G21 is similar to late-type spiral galaxies. We suppose
that morphological peculiarities and the possible existence of two large-scale
kinematically-decoupled subsystems in ESO603-G21 can be explained as being a
result of dissipative merging of two spiral galaxies or as a consequence of a

G21 healthy region project part 1 : business plan
Executive SummaryBackgroundG21 Geelong Region Alliance (G21), through the partnership activities of theG21 Health & Wellbeing Pillar, seeks to position health and wellbeing as acentral element to all regional planning processes and outcomes. As a result, G21 wanted to explore the potential application of the World HealthOrganisation’s (WHO) ‘Healthy Cities’ approach across the region to provide a comprehensive framework and set of principles to inform future planning and decision-making.With this aim, G21 commissioned Deakin University to undertake a 6-monthindependent research project. The research project involved two stages:Part 1: A Healthy Region Research Report involved scoping and determining:- The suitability of the World Health Organisations (WHO) ‘Healthy Cities’approach to the G21 region; and- The capacity of G21 Geelong Region Alliance to be the organisation tofacilitate this approach across the region.<br /
Effect of hyperthyroidism on circulating prolactin and hypothalamic expression of tyrosine hydroxylase, prolactin signaling cascade members and estrogen and progesterone receptors during late pregnancy and lactation in the rat
Hyperthyroidism (HyperT) compromises pregnancy and lactation, hindering suckling-induced PRL release. We studied the effect of HyperT on hypothalamic mRNA (RT-qPCR) and protein (Western blot) expression of tyrosine hydroxylase (TH), PRL receptor (PRLR) and signaling pathway members, estrogen-α (ERα) and progesterone (PR) receptors on late pregnancy (days G19, 20 and 21) and early lactation (L2) in rats. HyperT advanced pre-partum PRL release, reduced circulating PRL on L2 and increased TH mRNA (G21 and L2), p-TH, PRLR mRNA, STAT5 protein (G19 and L2), PRLR protein (G21) and CIS protein (G19). PRs mRNAs and protein decreased on G19 but afterwards PRA mRNA (G20), PRB mRNA (G21) and PRA mRNA and protein (L2) increased. ERα protein increased on G19 and decreased on G20. Thus, the altered hypothalamic PRLR, STAT5, PR and ERα expression in hyperthyroid rats may induce elevated TH expression and activation, that consequently, elevate dopaminergic tone during lactation, blunting suckling-induced PRL release and litter growth.Fil: Pennacchio, Gisela Erika. Periodicity and Growth in a Lattice Gas with Dynamical Geometry
We study a one-dimensional lattice gas "dynamical geometry model" in which
local reversible interactions of counter-rotating groups of particles on a ring
can create or destroy lattice sites. We exhibit many periodic orbits and and
show that all other solutions have asymptotically growing lattice length in
both directions of time. We explain why the length grows as in all
cases examined. We completely solve the dynamics for small numbers of particles
with arbitrary initial conditions.Comment: 18 pages, LaTe
Bounds on the lightest Higgs boson mass with three and four fermion generations
We present lower bounds on the Higgs boson mass in the Standard Model with
three and four fermion generations SM(3,4), as well as upper bounds on the
lightest Higgs boson mass in the minimal supersymmetric extension of the SM
with three and four generations MSSM(3,4). Our analysis utilizes the SM(3,4)
renormalization-group-improved one-loop effective potential of the Higgs boson
to find the upper bounds on the Higgs mass in the MSSM(3,4) while the lower
bounds in the SM(3,4) are derived from considerations of vacuum stability. All
the bounds increase as the degenerate fourth generation mass increases,
providing more room in theory space that respects the increasing experimental
