Colour in visualisation for computational fluid dynamics

Colour is used in computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulations in two key ways. First it is used to visualise the geometry and allow the engineers to be confident that the model constructed is a good representation of the engineering situation. Once an analysis has been completed, colour is used in post-processing the data from the simulations to illustrate the complex fluid mechanic phenomena under investigation. This paper describes these two uses of colour and provides some examples to illustrate the key visualisation approaches used in CFD

Mobile augmented reality: A pedagogical strategy in the university setting

The mobile augmented reality (M-AR) besides being a booming computer technology is an innovative tool that can support the pedagogical process in university classrooms, that is why the present research aims to show a methodological proposal for its implementation, in order to facilitate the learning of spatial reasoning of students, through the visualization and manipulation of three-dimensional virtual objects, promoting the motivation of learning knowledge and topics of the course of industrial design and technical drawing for the career of industrial engineering. A collection of geometric figures has been elaborated with the help of technological tools such as 2D and 3D modeling software, computer-aided design software and augmented reality application software. An updated methodology is proposed, available to any teacher, oriented to the stimulation of mental processes related to spatial reasoning of students, which integrates technological tools in the didactics of the dihedral system and the different graphic projections

Form Accuracy Analysis of Cylindrical Parts Produced by Rapid Prototyping

Solid Freeform fabrication processes are being considered for creating fit and assembly nature functional parts. It is extremely important that these parts are within allowable dimensional and geometric tolerance. The part accuracy produced by rapid prototyping process is greatly affected by the relative orientation of build and face normal directions. A systematic method is needed to find the reliability of the created product. This paper discusses the work done in this area and the effect of build orientation on the part form accuracy analysis of each specified tolerance like circularity and cylindricity. Feasible build direction that can be used to satisfy those tolerances is identified. HBIM as support of preventive conservation actions in heritage Architecture: experience of the Renaissance Quadrant Façade of the Cathedral of Seville

This paper discusses the generation of Historic Building Information Models (HBIM) for the management of heritage information aimed at the preventive conservation of assets of cultural interest, through its experimentation in a specific case study: the façade of the Renaissance quadrant of the Cathedral of Seville. Two methodological aspects are presented: On the one hand,the process of modeling the solid entities that compose the digital model of the object of study, basedon the semi-automatic estimation of the generating surfaces of the main faces; on the other hand,a methodological proposal for the modeling of information on the surface of the model. A series ofimages and data tables are shown as a result of the application of these methods. These representthe process of introducing information related to the current conservation status documentation and recording the treatments included in the preventive conservation works recently developedby a specialized company.
