    Structural macro-econometric modelling in a policy environment

    In this paper we review the evolution of macroeconomic modelling in a policy environment that took place over the past sixty years. We identify and characterise four generations of macro models. Particular attention is paid to the fourth generation -- dynamic stochastic general equilibrium models. We discuss some of the problems in how these models are implemented and quantified.

    Thinking Beyond Measurement, Description and Judgement: Fourth Generation Evaluation in Family-Centered Pediatric Healthcare Organizations

    Background: Although pediatric healthcare organizations have widely implemented the philosophy of family-centered care (FCC), evaluators and health professionals have not explored how to preserve the philosophy of FCC in evaluation processes. Purpose:  To illustrate how fourth generation evaluation, in theory, could facilitate collaboration between evaluators and families and uphold the philosophy of FCC in evaluation. Exploration focuses on describing the ways in which fourth generation evaluation is consistent with FCC and outlining a strategy for implementing it within pediatric healthcare organizations.  Discussion: Current evaluation practices used in healthcare organizations reflect what some describe as the first three generations of evaluation: measurement-, descriptive-, and judgment-oriented evaluation. While these generations encourage evaluators and health professionals to use systematic and rigorous approaches and techniques, they negate opportunities to explore issues that may surface in more flexible evaluation processes and do little to promote FCC in evaluation. Fourth generation evaluation is based on the constructivist paradigm, and its hermeneutic dialectic process moves beyond these generations, as well as the problems associated with them, to reflect the FCC notions of family participation, partnership, collaboration, respect, and joint decision-making. Conclusion: The collaborative and dialogue-oriented environment of pediatric healthcare organizations provides an ideal context for fourth generation evaluation. Although this evaluation approach is consistent with the philosophy of FCC, more research is required to understand the strengths and limitations of using it in these organizations.Keywords: family-centered care; pediatrics; fourth generation evaluation; constructivist paradig

    Five years after the Fukushima accident, people and countries still argue about the opportunity costs of denuclearization. While nuclear power generation has safety and waste issues, it is carbon free. Climate change has created more pressure for greenhouse gas reduction, so a few countries have decided to maintain or even increase nuclear power generation. The United States ranks first for using nuclear power produced by electricity generation, while the Republic of Korea, the closest country in proximity to Japan, ranks fourth in countries that use nuclear power. In fact, Korea even rapidly increased nuclear business after the Fukushima accident. Despite great health risks and waste problems, why use nuclear? Through analysis and comparison of key energy policies that support nuclear and nuclear costs in these two countries, this research paper seeks to determine the reasons behind the usage of nuclear power. first for using nuclear power produced by electricity generation, while the Republic of Korea, the closest country in proximity to Japan, ranks fourth in countries that use nuclear power.     Three-generation neutrino mixing and LSND dark matter neutrinos

    The reported signal at the LSND experiment, when interpreted as neutrino mixing with δm2=6  eV2\delta m^2 = 6 \;\rm{eV}^2, provides evidence for neutrinos with a cosmologically significant mass. However, attempts to reconcile this interpretation of the experiment with other hints about neutrino properties require a (sterile) fourth neutrino and/or an ``inverted'' neutrino mass hierarchy. An interpretation of the LSND experiment employing δm2=0.3  eV2\delta m^2 = 0.3\; \rm{eV}^2, with three-generation mixing and a ``normal'' neutrino mass hierarchy, can just barely be reconciled with the negative results of other laboratory neutrino oscillation experiments and the positive hints of neutrino oscillation from the solar and atmospheric neutrino problems. Though subject to test by by future experiments, such a solution allows (but does not demand) neutrino masses relevant for dark matter.Comment: To be published in Nucl. Phys. B (Proc.     Potential and Technological Advancement of Biofuels

    This scientific paper examines the feasibility of biofuels as a solution to the world‟s energy crisis. It studies the development of the four different generations of biofuel that have been discerned over the years, determining the pros and cons of each. The paper further investigates the issues concerning each generation, and determines how their successors have solved and improved on those problems. In order to give the reader an unbiased perspective, the paper studies both general advantages and disadvantages that encompasses social, economic and environmental impacts. Research and development on the first two generations of biofuels have matured, and case studies have been used to allude to their current applications. The challenge of making third and fourth generation biofuels economically viable has also been highlighted due to their significant environmental and production benefits over the first two generations. The prospects of third and fourth generation biofuels have also been looked into to determine its outlook in the near future. If these next generation biofuels can garner enough support and become cost-competitive, mankind‟s quest for an alternative, renewable source of energy may finally be completed

    Move to the Fourth-Generation Universities: A Systematic Scoping Review of Educational and Management Strategies

    Background: Higher education is not uniform. There are significant differences between higher education systems among different countries and even among institutions in a similar education or system; therefore, identifying the various types of entrepreneurial activities helps the mission of fourth-generation universities. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to introduce the most important educational strategies to move towards fourth-generation universities. Methods: We systematically searched the international databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, ISC, SID, and Google Scholar, until 2021 using some relevant keywords. Then, screening and selecting eligible articles according to inclusion criteria were done by two researchers independently. Results: Soft skills training, sustainable development training, training business law, reviewing the continuous training of professors, promoting ideation and creativity to solve problems, development of interdisciplinary training, decentralization of government accelerators and deployment of private accelerators, privatization of higher education, and internationalization are the most important educational strategies to move towards fourth-generation universities. One of the critical aspects and perspectives of the fourth-generation university is the development of job skills, professions, and competencies and empowerment of students and professors in line with the process of national development and solving society's problems scientifically. Conclusion: This research's analytical results help the universities design and implement their strategies to reach the fourth-generation universities according to the standard implementation models of the fourth-generation universities.     PSpectRe: A Pseudo-Spectral Code for (P)reheating

    PSpectRe is a C++ program that uses Fourier-space pseudo-spectral methods to evolve interacting scalar fields in an expanding universe. PSpectRe is optimized for the analysis of parametric resonance in the post-inflationary universe, and provides an alternative to finite differencing codes, such as Defrost and LatticeEasy. PSpectRe has both second- (Velocity-Verlet) and fourth-order (Runge-Kutta) time integrators. Given the same number of spatial points and/or momentum modes, PSpectRe is not significantly slower than finite differencing codes, despite the need for multiple Fourier transforms at each timestep, and exhibits excellent energy conservation. Further, by computing the post-resonance equation of state, we show that in some circumstances PSpectRe obtains reliable results while using substantially fewer points than a finite differencing code. PSpectRe is designed to be easily extended to other problems in early-universe cosmology, including the generation of gravitational waves during phase transitions and pre-inflationary bubble collisions.
