Formally Designing Web Services for Mobile Team Collaboration

We illustrate a symbiotic relationship between existing model oriented specification techniques and web services. We formally re-design the messaging part of the MOTION platform (a Peer-to-Peer based collaboration system for distributed and mobile teams) and introduce the concept of web services into it. The lessons learned include: (1) interference is a handicap to the construction of dependable web services and can seldom be avoided without the use of transaction support, that are, however, still in development; (2) clear stepwise specification and analysis of systems is a key requirement to the construction of intelligible web services; (3) techniques for capturing the behavior of web services are still to mature
