Treebank profiling of spoken and written German
This paper profiles significant differences in syntactic distribution and differences in word class frequencies for two treebanks of spoken and written German: the TüBa-D/S, a treebank of transliterated spontaneous dialogs, and the TüBa-D/Z treebank of newspaper articles published in the German daily newspaper ´die tageszeitung´(taz). The approach can be used more generally as a means of distinguishing and classifying language corpora of different genres
Clustering households by time use patterns ; an empirical investigation using the German Time Use Survey 2001/2002
Clustering individuals or households on the basis of socio-economic variables has become a widespread practice in German social research over the past few decades. This paper is part of a research project that explores results which may be obtained when time use patterns are chosen as the basis of numerical classification. Over the past few years, results relating to single households were published by the authors. The present paper extends the analysis to families. The investigation uses data from the German Time Use Survey 2001/2002. It is shown that the clustering process fulfils the criteria required by stochastic and qualitative social science. Furthermore, evidence is provided that including cluster memberships as dummy variables into a regressor set increases the predictive capabilities of a common multivariate analysis of correlations between socio-economic variables. Especially concerning health, meaningful interconnections between household styles and health state are detected. --
Progress in air transport will be incremental, as building commercial airliners has become a mature technology, where revolutionary new designs should not be expected in the foreseeable future. But individualisation and automatisation could in the long run lead to dramatic changes in the way we travel by air

Doch was heißt das? This essay aims to sketching out the task of a future hypernarratology by exploring the narrative function of hyperlinks and other hypertext specific ways of building a hyperstructure within the frame of digital literature. The most important assumption for any hypernarratological analysis is that the interference between the propositional content of the textual elements and the meaning, ascribed to the hypertext specific ways of connecting textual elements, is relevant for the mise en scènce, and hence, for the understanding of any hypernarrative. The performative aspect of these hypertext specific ways of connecting textual elements are examined by a close reading of Susanne Berkenheger's Hypertext Hilfe!. In the focus of interest is herebey the narrative function of performative dynamical connections
Morphologische Entwicklung des Ucayali in Peru ohne menschliche Einflüsse
The Ucayali River originates in the high Andean Mountains near the city of Cusco in Peru. After about 1,600 km, it joins with the Marañón River. Both the Ucayali River and the Marañón River are sources of the Amazon. From 2001 to 2005, the Ministry of Transport and Communication of Peru funded a study to determine the navigability of the Ucayali River. In the process, an extensive data set was acquired including hydrological and sedimentological data as well as a comprehensive topographical survey of the riverbed. Since the Ucayali River has experienced no stream channel modification in the past, the available data provide information about the flow pattern for a natural stream and insight into a reference ecosystem. This paper offers the first analysis of the available data and a sediment transport calculation for the Ucayali River.
