Factors Affecting QoS in Tanzania Cellular Networks
Quality of service in cellular communication system is a topic that recently
has raised much interest for many researchers. This paper presents the findings
obtained from the study on factors affecting QoS in Tanzania cellular networks.
The study was carried out in Dodoma Municipal, Tanzania. The study employed
cross sectional research design. Information was gathered from structured
questionnaire of 240 subscribers during the study of quality of service for the
four leading cellular networks in Tanzania. Both qualitative and quantitative
data from field survey were collected and analyzed using Statistical Package
for Social Sciences and Excel software. The study findings show that the major
factors that degrade QoS in Tanzania cellular networks are inadequate network
infrastructure, lack of fairness from service providers and little efforts
taken by the government in enforcing the national agreed standards. Other
factors are lack of reliable end to end systems, geographical terrain, low
quality handsets, poor government monitoring on standards and lack of
subscriber skills and training.Comment: 7 Page
Exploring the Values of Mobile Phone Technology in Tanzania Tourism SMEs
SMEs have been one of the reliable
sources of income and employment worldwide. Mobile
technologies have widely been used in performing a
number of activities for SMEs. Mobile phone
technology is maintained by a single or few operators
which leave endusers
with huge relief as they no longer
deal with technical issues. However, despite the notable
advantages of using mobile phone technology in SMEs,
their values have been explained in a generic way.
Specifics on direct and indirect benefits and concerns
on particular aspect and circumstances have not been
explored. The main challenge is that it is difficult to
single out the values of a technology in organisations
because there are other separate factors which also
contribute to the overall performance. Identifying
specific values of mobile technology on the performance
of SMEs is vital for improving the utility of such
performance in accomplishing the strategic objectives.
This study explores values of mobile phone
technology in Tanzania tourism SMEs. The
methodology is grounded in the theory of Value
Focused Thinking, which uses deep facetoface
interviews, with the employees and managers the in
Tanzania tourism SMEs. The analysis shows that
mobile phone technology improves collaboration and
sharing of information between SMEs stakeholders.
Among the main concerns to the SMEs level include the
security, battery capacity, mobile network coverage,
Quality of service and operational costs. Also,
implications and future studies are highlighted in this
study
Mobile Technology Usage for Street Traders’ Market Search in Dodoma—Urban Tanzania: An Exploratory Study
Increased access to mobile technologies has significantly contributed to almost all types of work, including informal work. Mobile phones are one such technology that has been exponentially adopted and used by street traders. However, there is limited information about how street traders use mobile phones to search for new markets. This study investigated street traders’ mobile usage for new market search in Dodoma, Tanzania. Qualitative data were collected using in-depth interviews with 29 street traders, followed by a focus group discussion with eight street traders. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data. The results show that using mobile phones to search for new markets is scarcely practiced due to certain challenges, such as high costs, technical problems, misuse of mobile contacts by customers, and a concentration of similar products in one location. The findings call for a reduction of mobile service costs, improvement of mobile infrastructure, and provision of education to street traders and customers so that they learn how to use mobile phones for business communication more effectively as well as to abide by communication ethics
