Gaming on the edge: using seams in ubicomp games

Outdoor multi-player games are an increasingly popular application area for ubiquitous computing, supporting experimentation both with new technologies and new user experiences. This paper presents an outdoor ubicomp game that exploits the gaps or seams that exist in complex computer systems. Treasure is designed so that players move in and out of areas of wireless network coverage, taking advantage not only of the connectivity within a wireless ‘hotspot’ but of the lack of connectivity outside it. More broadly, this paper discusses how the notion of seamful design can be a source of design ideas for ubicomp games

Factors supporting and preventing academics from becoming lifelong learners

In present circumstances, it has become inevitable for individuals to continue obtaining new information and skills throughout their lives. Having learned to learn and information literate individuals are able to meet their learning needs both in career and personal terms by themselves. The important aspect is the individual feels the need to learn and knows how and where to meet these needs. Feeling those can be considered as the basic requirement to make efforts in order to meet them. However, the surrounding circumstances may support or prevent meeting these needs. Since the situation of being a lifelong learner will be examined based on the present working conditions, the study is designed as embedded multiple case study. Maximum variety is ensured in the study group by taking into account the various academic titles, gender, and fields of study. The interview form is developed based on the literature and revised according to the opinions of specialists. The data has been collected by doing individual interviews with academics and a content analysis has been performed. In conclusion of the analysis performed, such themes as the need to become lifelong learners, the factors supporting to become lifelong learners and the factors preventing from becoming lifelong learners have been reached. © 2018, Sciedu Press. The Determining Factors of Entrepreneurial Activity in Broiler Farms

Indonesia still requires approximately 4 million entrepreneurs to become a developed country. This research aimed at identifying and analyzing the factors forming the broiler farm entrepreneurial activities that contribute on generating new entrepreneurs in Indonesia. Primary data were collected through questionnaire and analyzed by Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Independent latent variables were innovations (IN), productions (DP), competitiveness (DS), risks (PR), labors (TK), and policies (KP), and then entrepreneurial activities (AK) as dependent latent variable. The results showed that the model was built (MODEL1 as measurement model and MODEL2 as structural model) had goodness fit and good reliability measurement variables (CR≥0.70, VE≥0.50). Innovation was reflected by the level of willingness to innovate (λ=0.63) and level of technology (λ=0.62). Production was reflected by production efficiency (λ=0.62) and cost control (λ=0.43). Competitiveness was reflected by the internet (λ=0.56), the cost of starting (λ=0.55), and new business formation (λ=0.58). Labor was reflected by the training and development (λ=0.57), and motivation (λ=0.42). Policies was reflected by access to land (λ=0.56), technical assistance (λ=0.60), research and technology (λ=0.66), and copyright protection (λ=0.64). The entrepreneurial activity of broiler farms were formed by innovation (γ=0.91), competitiveness (γ=0.94), and policies (γ=0.98). Broiler farms contributed positively to generate new entrepreneurs. Production and information technology development program, facilitation of the creation of new ventures program, business expansion program, and a program of strengthening intellectual property rights on broiler farms should be a priority of the Indonesian government programs in the future

Factors Affecting Capital Structure and Stock Prices of Agricultural and Mining Companies

The purpose of this study was to analyze the influence of business risk, asset growth, sales growth, earning per share, and asset structure to capital structure and share price. This study involved mining and agriculture companies listed on IDX within the period of 2010-2017. The analysis employed eViews 9. Based on the hypothesis testing, it was found that that business risk, sales growth, and asset structure do not have a significant effect on capital structure. However, asset growth has a significant influence. Furthermore, sales growth and EPS do not have a significant effect on share price, but the asset structure has a significant influence. This research is a development of previous research by adding earnings per share as an independent variable and covering the period 2010 - 2017 in order to show the most actual conditions. Company management can make the results of this study a consideration in determining the optimal capital structure.   This study only examined the mining and agricultural sectors on the Indonesian stock exchange
