Supporters of Clinton and Trump have diametrically opposed preferences for how the United States should be governed
The likely 2016 election candidates, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump offer voters very distinct visions of how the US should be governed. Using data from the Election Compass USA 2016 voter advice application, André Krouwel, Yordan Kutiyski and Pat Beck II look at the extent to which the candidates’ supporters agree with the candidates’ policy positions on issues such as law and order, immigration, education, moral values, economy, national security and healthcare. They write that given the policy preferences of their supporters, Donald Trump would govern the US in a diametrically opposed manner to Hillary Clinton, and vice versa
The election studies at CEVIPOF in 2012 : Présidoscopie 2012, Presidential Compass, Mediapolis, Post-election surveys, ecological data
The 2012 elections sequence was the occasion for CEVIPOF both to extend its usual election studies (panel study and post-election study) and to develop new and innovative surveys. Without being the French equivalent of the large infrastructures developed in some other European countries (such as British election studies, for example), these different surveys and data collections represent a significant contribution to the overall production of data produced by the French political science in 2012. This paper shows the different contributions of the CEVIPOF election studies in 2012 and their complementarities: the Présidoscopie panel study (6000 respondents); the post-election surveys are constituted by two simultaneous polls, CATI and CAWI, in the period following immediately the second ballot of the presidential election; the presidential Compass 2012 is the first academic application in France of Voting Advice Application (VAA) surveys, in association with Kieskompas (application developed by André Krouwel, VU University Amsterdam; the ANR Mediapolis surveys allows to measure and to understand the informative practices of the French people. Finally, as after every election, Cevipof enriches the national electoral database at every geographical level
Representations and Discourses of Black Motherhood in Hip Hop and R&B over Time
This study will examine how representations and discourses regarding Black motherhood have changed in the Hip Hop and R&B genres over time. Specifically, this scholarly work will contextualize the lyrics of 79 songs (57 Hip Hop songs; 18 R&B songs; 2 songs represented the Hip Hop and R&B genre; 2 songs represented artists who produce music in 5 or 6 genres) from 1961-2015 to identify the ways that Black male and Black female artists described motherhood. Through the use of Black Feminist Theory, and by placing the production of these songs within a sociohistorical context, we provide an in-depth qualitative examination of song lyrics related to Black motherhood. Results gave evidence that representations and discourse of motherhood have been largely shaped by patriarchy as well as cultural, political, and racial politics whose primary aim was to decrease the amount of public support for poor, single Black mothers. In spite of the pathological framing of Black mothers, most notably through the welfare queen and baby mama stereotypes, a substantial number of Hip Hop and R&B artists have provided a strong counter narrative to Black motherhood by highlighting their positive qualities, acknowledging their individual and collective struggle, and demanding that these women be respected

Health behavior during periods of stressful uncertainty: associations with emotions, cognitions, and expectation management.
Objective: The present study examined how cognitions and emotions characteristic of awaiting uncertain news influenced healthy (diet/exercise) and unhealthy (alcohol use) behaviors in three samples of people awaiting important news.Design: Study 1 examined voting-eligible citizens during the month prior to learning the results of the 2016 U.S. presidential election. Study 2 examined the experience of law graduates across four months while they awaited the results of their bar exam (i.e., the licensing exam they need to pass to practice law). Study 3 examined current or recent PhD students searching for a job on the academic job market. Results: Though the findings were somewhat mixed across studies, they generally suggest a relationship between positive emotions and health-promoting behaviors and between worry and alcohol use, with less consistent relationships between outcome expectations and health behaviors. Conclusion: Taken together, these results offer a promising set of initial findings to understand health behavior in the context of awaiting uncertain news and provide a foundation for future investigations on the topic
From Global Strategy to Strategic Compass: Where Is the EU Heading? Egmont Security Policy Brief No, 121 December 2019
Does the EU need a “Strategic Compass” to
guide the implementation of the security and
defence dimension of the European Union
Global Strategy (EUGS)? Does it need a
military strategy perhaps? And what about a
review of the EUGS itself? As Josep Borrell
has assumed the post of High
Representative, various proposals by
Member States and EU institutional actors
are being discussed in Brussels. The wish for
more strategic documents may reflect the
complexity of the challenges that the EU is
facing. It may also result from the inability to
fully implement existing strategies.
Producing new documents can be a way of
forging a deal between Member States on
foreign policy priorities for the next five years.
But it could also be window-dressing,
occupying the machinery and deluding
ourselves that we are active. How to take EU
strategy and its implementation forward
Transit Manipulation by the Koch Brothers: Analyzing the Relationship between the Division of Power in the United States Government, Societal Benefits, Voter and Rider Composition, Referendum Language and Cost of Improvement Under the Lens of the 2018 Nashville Transit Improvement Program Referendum
Samantha Lee, Depts. of Biology and Chemistry, with Prof. Mary Boyes, VCU Honors College
In Nashville, Tennessee, Charles and David Koch, known as the Koch Brothers, manipulated these areas--the division of power in the United States government, change in leadership, societal benefits, voter and rider composition, referendum language and cost of the improvement--in order to turn what was initially positive voter feedback into a roadblock for the 2018 Nashville Transit Improvement Program Referendum, even though many voters would have benefitted from such a system. The federal government focuses on the united country whereas the state governments account solely for their respective interests, causing projects in states that received the majority of the funding for the 2010 national high-speed rail to fail since they misrepresented the expectations of the people, alluding to the systemic bias in funding against public transportation in comparison to automobiles. The voter and rider composition of Nashville, specifically the 5.4 billion project cost prompted the Nashville voters to become dissuaded because of their socioeconomic status, supported by their unwillingness to pay. Understanding the failure of the 2018 Nashville Transit Improvement Program Referendum was a result of the Nashville’s societal and economic conditions that were exploited by conservative political groups, such as Americans for Prosperity, one can apply such knowledge to future transportation referendums and mirror or counteract the Koch Brothers’ actions to prompt successful passage.https://scholarscompass.vcu.edu/uresposters/1320/thumbnail.jp
Corporate Governance: What about the workers?
To stimulate debates about the creation of corporate governance mechanisms and processes which would help to secure an equitable distribution of income and wealth for workers. Methodology/Approach: The paper builds on a political economy of income and wealth inequalities. It argues that corporate governance mechanisms and processes are rooted in particular politics and histories. The state is a key actor. It provides a brief history of the UK corporate governance debates relating to income distribution, industrial democracy and disclosures. It provides social data about the extent of income inequalities. Findings: The paper shows that the UK lacks institutional structures and processes and mechanisms to enable workers to secure a higher share of the firm?s income. Research limitations/implications (if applicable): The study primarily focuses on some aspects of the corporate governance structures, practices and income/wealth inequalities in the UK. Its implications could also be relevant to market-oriented liberal states with ?consensus? or ?majoritarian? electoral systems. Practical implications (if applicable): To encourage debates, the paper puts forward a number of suggestions for changing electoral and corporate governance practices together with disclosures that could give visibility to income and wealth inequalities. Originality/value of paper: The paper links corporate governance debates to broader political choices. Article Type: A research article that uses a variety of government and institutional data sources to highlight shortcomings of corporate governance practices

Kepentingan Maroko melakukan normalisasi hubungan dengan Israel melalui Deklarasi Bersama Maroko dengan Israel
This study aims to analyze Morocco's interests in normalizing relations with Israel through the Joint Declaration. This declaration is an effort to normalize diplomatic relations carried out by Morocco and Israel. This study uses a qualitative approach by collecting secondary data from various sources from literature studies and online network systems. In this study, the authors use the Theory of Realism initiated by Robert Jackson and Georg Sorensen and using the concept of national interest from H. Morgenthau. The results of the research show that there is a national interest that Morocco is trying to achieve in normalizing relations with Israel through a joint declaration that will be implemented in 2020. According to Morgenthau, national interests consist of three aspects, namely physical identity interests, political interests to cultural interests. In line with this, Morocco normalized with Israel because of physical identity interests, namely the desire to maintain integrity and power in the Western Sahara region, political interests, namely to gain support and additional strength from Israel and Western groups, as well as cultural interests, as the heyday of the former Moroccan Kingdom. are in the same government as Western Sahara. Therefore, from the normalization of diplomatic relations, Morocco will gain recognition in terms of controlling Western Sahara and obtaining political support from Israel and the United States, as well as other benefits
Exploration of Finite 2D Square Grid by a Metamorphic Robotic System
We consider exploration of finite 2D square grid by a metamorphic robotic
system consisting of anonymous oblivious modules. The number of possible shapes
of a metamorphic robotic system grows as the number of modules increases. The
shape of the system serves as its memory and shows its functionality. We
consider the effect of global compass on the minimum number of modules
necessary to explore a finite 2D square grid. We show that if the modules agree
on the directions (north, south, east, and west), three modules are necessary
and sufficient for exploration from an arbitrary initial configuration,
otherwise five modules are necessary and sufficient for restricted initial
configurations
