This report examines the role and impact of immigrant entrepreneurs and workers on Leisure and Hospitality businesses in New England, particularly Massachusetts. A significant portion of state economies in New England, especially in Massachusetts, relies heavily on the employment of the foreign-born. As the native workforce ages and population growth declines, businesses are becoming increasingly dependent upon the availability of the foreign-born. This development has facilitated an increasingly significant presence and role of immigrant entrepreneurs in Leisure and Hospitality businesses that is documented for the first time in this report

Tourism is a complex social and economic phenomenon specific to modern civilization, anessential activity in the life of nations, being strongly influenced by the freedom of travel and theevolution of society. Addressing to large shares of the population and meeting the human need fortravelling and knowledge, recreation and healing, tourism is characterized by a high momentum bothnationally and globally, resulting in a vast human and material potential, with important implicationsupon the evolution of the entire society.Hospitality and tourism industry are nowadays considered to stand for the largest business in theworld, being the main industry in point of their contribution to the gross world product, laborcommitted as well as the most important capital investor.The objective of our article is to analyze the evolution of several indicators of tourist traffic and theirinfluence on the macro-environment in Romania. As far as the research methodology is concerned, thearticle is based on a positivist quantitative approach, being in the same time a longitudinal one, as wepresent the evolution of various indicators measuring the degree of impact the hospitality industry hason the national economy.The main information sources for this research are published on the websites of various authorizedbodies (NIS, NBR, WTO), using exploratory method for analyzing the evolution of the phenomenon intime, but I also considered the interpretive method when disclosing the analysis results.Tourism, macro-environment, tourist traffic indicators

DETERMINANTS OF TURNOVER INTENTIONS AMONG CHINESE OFF FARM MIGRANTS

This study examines the determinants of turnover intentions of off farm migrant workers, using data collected from China's Jiangsu Province. Turnover intention is posited to be a function of demographic/human capital characteristics, job characteristics and job satisfaction. We find that higher levels of education have a positive effect on reported turnover intentions, while higher income and job satisfaction have a negative effect on turnover intentions. As turnover intentions represent a good proxy for actual turnover, the results can be viewed as providing reliable predictors of job mobility among off farm migrant workers at a time when there is a growing shortage of such workers in China's coastal provinces.

Corporate social responsibility in the tourism industry. Some lessons from the Spanish experience

Tourism has been, and still is, a very profitable industry in Spain. But the Spanish model of tourism development, following a pattern set in the 1950s, is now in crisis. The crisis is apparent in the widespread overdevelopment of tourist resorts and residential facilities in coastal areas, generating high environmental, social and economic costs. In this paper, we describe the Spanish model of tourism, the results it has achieved, the reasons for its longevity and the obstacles facing any attempt to change it. Given the failure of individual, collective and political action to solve the problems ofoverdevelopment, we ask whether corporate social responsibility and its theoretical foundations and instruments offer a solution.Spanish model of tourism; Corporate social responsibility; Overdevelopment; Tourism; Residential tourism;
