"Information-Based Economy", which is today's economy that is a proof and indicator of development level for the countries now on, comes on the scene with its new organizing model on its infrastructure, which is called "Information Society". The phenomenon of administration introduces to "e-Government" for reinforcing the roots of "Information-Based Economy" now. Having a systematic knowledge of the relation between "Information-Based Economy", "Information Society" and "e-Government" as a whole composes of the theme of this study. For this purpose, a questionnaire has been conducted in the Ministry of National Education, which is responsible for forming the society of the future, to understand whether there is a systematic knowledge on the relation between "Information-Based Economy", "Information Society" and "e-Government" as a whole. Moreover, it has been aimed to discover what the mental formulations of participants are. Questionnaire results reveal that there is no systematic knowledge on the relation between "Information-Based Economy", "Information Society" and "e-Government" as a whole in the Ministry of National Education, and that the participants are apt to perceive "e-Government" within the context in which they are in terms of professions, status and backgrounds. Questionnaire results also show that the responses given by the participants concerning "e-Government" are more or less the same due to the hierarchical organization of knowledge and official knowledge in particular.Information-Based Economy, Information Society, E-Government, Educational System

Quantum noise detection: a portable and educational system

Quantum noise is a key feature of laser beams. It is both a limiting effect in contemporary optical measurements and a manifestation of the quantum nature of light. Its properties distinguish it from classical noise. We demonstrate a simple, reliable, and portable apparatus using low cost commercial lasers and electronics that provides evidence of these properties. This work was supported by Centre of Excellence for Quantum-Atom Optics of the Australian Research Council

Development of a tabletop guidance system for educational robots

The guidance of a vehicle in an outdoor setting is typically implemented using a Real Time Kinematic Global Positioning System (RTK-GPS) potentially enhanced by auxiliary sensors such as electronic compasses, rotation encoders, gyroscopes, and vision systems. Since GPS does not function in an indoor setting where educational competitions are often held, an alternative guidance system was developed. This article describes a guidance method that contains a laser-based localization system, which uses a robot-borne single laser transmitter spinning in a horizontal plane at an angular velocity up to 81 radians per second. Sensor arrays positioned in the corners of a flat rectangular table with dimensions of 1.22 m × 1.83 m detected the laser beam passages. The relative time differences among the detections of the laser passages gave an indication of the angles of the sensors with respect to the laser beam transmitter on the robot. These angles were translated into Cartesian coordinates. The guidance of the robot was implemented using a uni-directional wireless serial connection and position feedback from the localization system. Three experiments were conducted to test the system: 1) the accuracy of the static localization system was determined while the robot stood still. In this test the average error among valid measurements was smaller than 0.3 %. However, a maximum of 3.7 % of the measurements were invalid due to several causes. 2) The accuracy of the guidance system was assessed while the robot followed a straight line. The average deviation from this straight line was 3.6 mm while the robot followed a path with a length of approximately 0.9 m. 3) The overall performance of the guidance system was studied while the robot followed a complex path consisting of 33 sub-paths. The conclusion was that the system worked reasonably accurate, unless the robot came in close proximity

American Education Through a Chinese Lens

This June, a group of faculty members from Gettysburg College and K-12 teachers from York and Adams Counties travelled to China for four weeks of intensive cultural and educational exchange. This Gettysburg Fulbright Group Project Abroad in China studied the cultural and historical foundations of the Chinese educational system, as well as how this system is changing. Participants studied the larger policy context of the Chinese system and how those policies play out in the classroom. (excerpt

The system of academic activities in higher education institutions is a program created to enable students and academic activities to communicate with each other. The mainpurpose of the existence of this system is to provide guidance and mentoring to students in their academic direction. Web-based system has been used as a medium for students to obtain information specifically related to academic course of study and learning. The use of the web-based system is to facilitate the process of selecting courses for planning of studies. The aims of this research are to design and implement quality management system based on International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in higher education or university with android and to know the respondents’ reaction regarding the new design quality management system based on ISO in higher education or university with android. The tools that used in this research are hardware and sofware. In this research use quality management system based on ISO 9001 (quality control) and the process of managing the data in the application of Android telephone celuler will use to implement the system to achieve the result of the research. The sample is 15 students of Information System Department students in Diponegoro University. The method analysis use in this research is descriptive analysis. The result of this study is the develop of information systems used in the higher education or university to know the quality management system based on ISO using Android. The information system to know the quality management system based on ISO using Android telephon celluler is very useful and easy to aplicated. New findings/significance that the design of this information system can help to aplicatedquality management system based on ISO using Android. Keywords: ISO, educational system, academic advisor

School Systems and Efficiency and Equity of Education

How students should be allocated to schools to achieve educational goals is one of important debates on the construction of school systems. Promoters of comprehensive and selective school systems fail to reach a consensus on implications of each system for efficiency and equity of education. This paper examines impacts of different systems of student allocation on educational goals, using a simple economic model. It argues that how a selective system is designed matters a great deal in a comparison between comprehensive and selective systems: different designs of a selective system can yield widely different educational implications compared with those from a comprehensive system. A judicious use of a selective system can at times achieve educational goals better than a comprehensive system. Given our finding that different households prefer different school systems, we suggest that by offering multiple subsystems, the educational planner can enhance educational attainments of households beyond those achieved by a single national system.Education, Comprehensive and Selective School Systems

Experiences in Mining Educational Data to Analyze Teacher's Performance: A Case Study with High Educational Teachers

    Get PDF
Educational Data Mining (EDM) is a new paradigm aiming to mine and extract knowledge necessary to optimize the effectiveness of teaching process. With normal educational system work it’s often unlikely to accomplish fine system optimizing due to large amount of data being collected and tangled throughout the system. EDM resolves this problem by its capability to mine and explore these raw data and as a consequence of extracting knowledge. This paper describes several experiments on real educational data wherein the effectiveness of Data Mining is explained in migration the educational data into knowledge. The experiments goal at first to identify important factors of teacher behaviors influencing student satisfaction. In addition to presenting experiences gained through the experiments, the paper aims to provide practical guidance of Data Mining solutions in a real application
