Application Control Using Gestures

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá ovládáním aplikace pro 3D modelování pomocí senzoru Microsoft Kinect. Hlavním cílem je prozkoumat možnosti a vhodnost tohoto senzoru pro rozpoznávání gest a jejich následné využití při ovládání aplikace. Práce se soustředí na tři hlavní úkoly. Jedná se o ovládání menu, ovládání rotace a ovládání ořezávání.This bachelor thesis deals with application control using sensor Microsoft Kinect. The main goal is to explore the possibility and the suitability of the sensor for gesture recognition and their using in control application. The work focuses on three main tasks. Namely, menu control, rotation control and trimming control.

Irritantcy potential and sub acute dermal toxicity study of Pistacia Lentiscus fatty oil as a topical traditional remedy

The current study was undertaken to assess safety of Pistacia lentiscus fruits fatty oil (PLFO) as a topical traditional remedy. A primary skin and eye irritation tests were conducted with New Zealand white rabbits to determine the potential for PLFO to produce irritation from a single application. In addition, a sub acute dermal toxicity study was performed on 18 NZW rabbits to evaluate possible adverse effect following application of PLFO for 28 days. Based on the results of the current study, PLFO is classified as slightly irritating to the skin and the eye of rabbits (Primary Irritation Index (P.I.I.) = 1.037; Ocular Irritation Index (O.I.I.) = 5.33 at 1 h). In the sub-acute toxicity test, PLFO produced neither mortality nor significant differences in the body and organ weights between control group and treated rabbits. However, a reversible irritant contact dermatitis was observed in the treated areas from the end of the second week of application until the end of experiment. This local phenomenon was accompanied by a significant skin thickening (P.0.01) since the 12th day (ANOVA, F = 11, 07143, P = 0, 00765) which is confirmed with an inflammatory granuloma in histological study. Haematological analysis and blood chemistry values of the 2 groups showed no significant differences in any of the parameters examined. In summary, PLFO is minimally irritating to the eye and skin after a single exposure, but it may cause irritant contact dermatitis and a reversible thickening of skin after prolonged use.Key words: Pistacia lentiscus, fatty oil, skin, eye, dermatitis, irritation, toxicity

As experiências com animais nas indústrias de cosméticos sob o enfoque do paradigma da complexidade

As experiências científicas com animais se baseiam no paradigma cartesiano. Há uma ligação entre as experiências científicas com animais nas indústrias de cosméticos e o hiperconsumo provocado pelo desenvolvimento econômico. Diante disso, tem-se como ponto de partida: como e em que medida a indústria de cosméticos pode se vincular com uma ética animal por meio do paradigma da complexidade? Para tanto, aborda-se a conexão entre os paradigmas científicos e o direito dos animais. Atenta-se para a importância da complexidade e das vertentes éticas de proteção animal. A pesquisa tem o propósito de analisar as nuanças da utilização de animais nas indústrias de cosméticos. Analisar-se-á a cultura de consumo na sociedade contemporânea e como isso repercute na ascensão destas indústrias, assim como as implicações éticas das experiências científicas, quanto à crueldade para com os animais. Analisar-se-á a necessidade de uma ruptura, nas indústrias de cosméticos, de um paradigma cartesiano para a complexidade. A partir de pesquisa de natureza qualitativa, por meio de investigação indireta e dos métodos descritivo, explicativo e dialético, demonstra-se que a aplicação da complexidade no Direito Ambiental auxilia para uma nova forma de pensar e, portanto, a inserção de uma ética animal no ramo de cosméticos

Improving compliance with COVID-19 guidance: a workplace field experiment

Compliance with hygiene and other safety measures in the workplace was an important component of society's strategy for reducing infections at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, in particular before vaccinations were widely available. We report the results of a field trial of well-established behavioural interventions (social norms, pledging and messenger effects) we implemented to improve compliance with such measures in an occupational setting. We use daily reports of own and other's behaviour to assess the effects of these interventions and supplement these subjective (self-reported) measures with objective data on hand sanitiser usage. The behavioural interventions tested have statistically significant but quantitatively moderate effects on subjective compliance measures and minimal effects on hand sanitiser usage. All effects of our interventions are short-term in nature and dissipate shortly after implementation. Our findings thus provide at most weak support for the notion that typical behavioural interventions can help support compliance with infection prevention measures in the workplace
