Meta-Packages: Painless Domain Specific Languages
Domain Specific Languages are used to provide a tailored modelling notation
for a specific application domain. There are currently two main approaches to
DSLs: standard notations that are tailored by adding simple properties; new
notations that are designed from scratch. There are problems with both of these
approaches which can be addressed by providing access to a small meta-language
based on packages and classes. A meta-modelling approach based on meta-packages
allows a wide range of DSLs to be defined in a standard way. The DSLs can be
processed using standard object-based extension at the meta-level and existing
tooling can easily be defined to adapt to the new languages. This paper
introduces the concept of meta-packages and provides a simple example

Domain-Specific Languages are used in software engineering in order to enhance quality, flexibility, and timely delivery of software systems, by taking advantage of specific properties of a particular application domain. This survey covers terminology, risks and benefits, examples, design methodologies, and implementation techniques of domain-specific languages as used for the construction and maintenance of software systems. Moreover, it covers an annotated selection of 75 key publications in the area of domain-specific languages
Application Software, Domain-Specific Languages, and Language Design Assistants
While application software does the real work, domain-specific languages
(DSLs) are tools to help produce it efficiently, and language design assistants
in turn are meta-tools to help produce DSLs quickly. DSLs are already in wide
use (HTML for web pages, Excel macros for spreadsheet applications, VHDL for
hardware design, ...), but many more will be needed for both new as well as
existing application domains. Language design assistants to help develop them
currently exist only in the basic form of language development systems. After a
quick look at domain-specific languages, and especially their relationship to
application libraries, we survey existing language development systems and give

Domain-specific languages in perspective
Domain-specific languages (DSLs) are languages tailored to a specific application domain. They offer substantial gains in expressiveness and ease of use compared with general-purpose languages in their domain of application. Although the use of DSLs is by no means new, it is receiving increased attention in the context of model-driven engineering and development of parallel software for multicore processors. Building Domain Specific Languages for Voice Recognition Applications
This paper presents a method of implementing the voice recognition for the control of software applications. The solutions proposed are based on transforming a subset of the natural language in commands recognized by the application using a formal language defined by the means of a context free grammar. Phobos: A front-end approach to extensible compilers (long version)
This paper describes a practical approach for implementing certain types of domain-specific languages with extensible compilers. Given a compiler with one or more front-end languages, we introduce the idea of a "generic" front-end that allows the syntactic and semantic specification of domain-specific languages. Phobos, our generic front-end, offers modular language specification, allowing the programmer to define new syntax and semantics incrementally
