Checklist of the Ants of Michigan (Hymenoptera: Formicidae)
A total of 113 species of ants is recorded by county from the state of Michigan. The list is based upon literature records and specimens in the authors\u27 collections and those of the University of Michigan Museum of Zoology and the Michigan State University Department of Entomology. The list includes 3 species in Ponerinae, 44 in Myrnucinae, 6 in Dolichoderinae, and 60 in Formicinae. Ten species represent new state records. Five distribution pat- terns are evident: statewide (39 species), southern counties only (5), southern 3/4th of Lower Peninsula (10), Lower Peninsula (17), and Upper Peninsula (2). Forty species have been collected too infrequently to determine the distribution within the state

Flight Activities of the Ant Dolichoderus (Hypoclinea) Mariae Forel
Often some reference is made to the flight of a .species of ants as if all the males and females left the colony .on one day. W. M. Wheeler, in his 1905 account of the genus Dolichoderus, said .o D. mariae August 20 is approximately the date of the nuptial flight oi this species. Today it is generally understood that there are usually a number oi flights. This study shows that D. mariae is conspicuous in this respect
Revision of the Checklist of Indiana Ants with the Addition of Five New Species (Hymenoptera: Formicidae)
The Effect of Two Types of Coffee-Based Agroforestry on The Population of Black Ants (Dolichoderus sp.) on The West Slope of Raung Mount
Mount Raung is a mountain located in three districts in East Java, namely Jember district and Bondowoso district, and Banyuwangi district. One of the land uses for the western slopes of Mount Raung is used as coffee-based agroforestry land. The coffee berry borer is a pest that is often encountered by coffee farmers in Rowosari Village and is still difficult to control. One control that can be carried out is creating vegetation that supports the presence of natural enemies, especially Dolichoderus sp. This research aims to determine the effect of different types of agroforestry on the population of black ants (Dolichoderus sp.). This research was carried out using the vegetation analysis method to determine the character of the vegetation and using a vacuum tool to collect the ants. The number of ant populations Dolichoderus sp. on simple coffee-based agroforestry land there were 6,520 individuals, while on complex agroforestry land there were 1,330 individuals. The data obtained was then analyzed using regression and correlation analysis. The result showed that the diversity and richness of tree plants had a negative relationship, while the relationship between diversity and richness of understory plants showed a positive relationship.

Polydomy enhances foraging performance in ant colonies.
Collective foraging confers benefits in terms of reduced predation risk and access to social information, but it heightens local competition when resources are limited. In social insects, resource limitation has been suggested as a possible cause for the typical decrease in per capita productivity observed with increasing colony size, a phenomenon known as Michener's paradox. Polydomy (distribution of a colony's brood and workers across multiple nests) is believed to help circumvent this paradox through its positive effect on foraging efficiency, but there is still little supporting evidence for this hypothesis. Here, we show experimentally that polydomy enhances the foraging performance of food-deprived Temnothorax nylanderi ant colonies via several mechanisms. First, polydomy influences task allocation within colonies, resulting in faster retrieval of protein resources. Second, communication between sister nests reduces search times for far away resources. Third, colonies move queens, brood and workers across available nest sites in response to spatial heterogeneities in protein and carbohydrate resources. This suggests that polydomy represents a flexible mechanism for space occupancy, helping ant colonies adjust to the environment
