Automated construction of a hierarchy of self-organized neural network classifiers
This paper documents an effort to design and implement a neural network-based, automatic classification system which dynamically constructs and trains a decision tree. The system is a combination of neural network and decision tree technology. The decision tree is constructed to partition a large classification problem into smaller problems. The neural network modules then solve these smaller problems. We used a variant of the Fuzzy ARTMAP neural network which can be trained much more quickly than traditional neural networks. The research extends the concept of self-organization from within the neural network to the overall structure of the dynamically constructed decision hierarchy. The primary advantage is avoidance of manual tedium and subjective bias in constructing decision hierarchies. Additionally, removing the need for manual construction of the hierarchy opens up a large class of potential classification applications. When tested on data from real-world images, the automatically generated hierarchies performed slightly better than an intuitive (handbuilt) hierarchy. Because the neural networks at the nodes of the decision hierarchy are solving smaller problems, generalization performance can really be improved if the number of features used to solve these problems is reduced. Algorithms for automatically selecting which features to use for each individual classification module were also implemented. We were able to achieve the same level of performance as in previous manual efforts, but in an efficient, automatic manner. The technology developed has great potential in a number of commercial areas, including data mining, pattern recognition, and intelligent interfaces for personal computer applications. Sample applications include: fraud detection, bankruptcy prediction, data mining agent, scalable object recognition system, email agent, resource librarian agent, and a decision aid agent

Certainty of outlier and boundary points processing in data mining
Data certainty is one of the issues in the real-world applications which is
caused by unwanted noise in data. Recently, more attentions have been paid to
overcome this problem. We proposed a new method based on neutrosophic set (NS)
theory to detect boundary and outlier points as challenging points in
clustering methods. Generally, firstly, a certainty value is assigned to data
points based on the proposed definition in NS. Then, certainty set is presented
for the proposed cost function in NS domain by considering a set of main
clusters and noise cluster. After that, the proposed cost function is minimized
by gradient descent method. Data points are clustered based on their membership
degrees. Outlier points are assigned to noise cluster and boundary points are
assigned to main clusters with almost same membership degrees. To show the
effectiveness of the proposed method, two types of datasets including 3
datasets in Scatter type and 4 datasets in UCI type are used. Results
demonstrate that the proposed cost function handles boundary and outlier points
with more accurate membership degrees and outperforms existing state of the art
clustering methods.Comment: Conference Paper, 6 page
Electricity clustering framework for automatic classification of customer loads
Clustering in energy markets is a top topic with high significance on expert and intelligent systems. The main impact of is paper is the proposal of a new clustering framework for the automatic classification of electricity customers’ loads. An automatic selection of the clustering classification algorithm is also highlighted. Finally, new customers can be assigned to a predefined set of clusters in the classificationphase. The computation time of the proposed framework is less than that of previous classification tech- niques, which enables the processing of a complete electric company sample in a matter of minutes on a personal computer. The high accuracy of the predicted classification results verifies the performance of the clustering technique. This classification phase is of significant assistance in interpreting the results, and the simplicity of the clustering phase is sufficient to demonstrate the quality of the complete mining framework.Ministerio de EconomÃa y Competitividad TEC2013-40767-RMinisterio de EconomÃa y Competitividad IDI- 2015004
