Means for phase locking the outputs of a surface emitting laser diode array

    Get PDF
An array of diode lasers, either a two-dimensional array of surface emitting lasers, or a linear array of stripe lasers, is phase locked by a diode laser through a hologram which focuses the output of the diode laser into a set of distinct, spatially separated beams, each one focused onto the back facet of a separate diode laser of the array. The outputs of the diode lasers thus form an emitted coherent beam out of the front of the array

A user oriented computer program for the analysis of microwave mixers, and a study of the effects of the series inductance and diode capacitance on the performance of some simple mixers

A user oriented computer program for analyzing microwave and millimeter wave mixers with a single Schottky barrier diode of known I-V and C-V characteristics is described. The program first performs a nonlinear analysis to determine the diode conductance and capacitance waveforms produced by the local oscillator. A small signal linear analysis is then used to find the conversion loss, port impedances, and input noise temperature of the mixer. Thermal noise from the series resistance of the diode and shot noise from the periodically pumped current in the diode conductance are considered. The effects of the series inductance and diode capacitance on the performance of some simple mixer circuits using a conventional Schottky diode, a Schottky diode in which there is no capacitance variation, and a Mott diode are studied. It is shown that the parametric effects of the voltage dependent capacitance of a conventional Schottky diode may be either detrimental or beneficial depending on the diode and circuit parameters

A Fully Tunable Single-Walled Carbon Nanotube Diode

We demonstrate a fully tunable diode structure utilizing a fully suspended single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT). The diode's turn-on voltage under forward bias can be continuously tuned up to 4.3 V by controlling gate voltages, which is ~6 times the nanotube bandgap energy. Furthermore, the same device design can be configured into a backward diode by tuning the band-to-band tunneling current with gate voltages. A nanotube backward diode is demonstrated for the first time with nonlinearity exceeding the ideal diode. These results suggest that a tunable nanotube diode can be a unique building block for developing next generation programmable nanoelectronic logic and integrated circuits.Comment: 14 pages, 4 figure

Spin-current diode with a ferromagnetic semiconductor

Diode is a key device in electronics: the charge current can flow through the device under a forward bias, while almost no current flows under a reverse bias. Here we propose a corresponding device in spintronics: the spin-current diode, in which the forward spin current is large but the reversed one is negligible. We show that the lead/ferromagnetic quantum dot/lead system and the lead/ferromagnetic semiconductor/lead junction can work as spin-current diodes. The spin-current diode, a low dissipation device, may have important applications in spintronics, as the conventional charge-current diode does in electronics.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure

Subband population in a single-wall carbon nanotube diode

We observe current rectification in a molecular diode consisting of a semiconducting single-wall carbon nanotube and an impurity. One half of the nanotube has no impurity, and it has a current-voltage (I-V) charcteristic of a typical semiconducting nanotube. The other half of the nanotube has the impurity on it, and its I-V characteristic is that of a diode. Current in the nanotube diode is carried by holes transported through the molecule's one-dimensional subbands. At 77 Kelvin we observe a step-wise increase in the current through the diode as a function of gate voltage, showing that we can control the number of occupied one-dimensional subbands through electrostatic doping.Comment: to appear in Physical Review Letters. 4 pages & 3 figure

This master's thesis deals with the characteristics of the laser diode, diffraction and the properties of the gaussian beam. The coupling attenuation of the laser diode and the transmitting aperture is calculated depending on the sizes of the aperture and on the size of the beam in program MATLAB. The optimal parameters of the coupling diode-aperture are determined.
