Analysis and Characterization of Single-Poly Floating Gate Devices in 0.35um PDSOI Process

    Get PDF
The purpose of this thesis is to demonstrate a single-poly Floating Gate Device (FGD) in 0.35 m Partially Depleted Silicon On Insulator (PDSOI) process for use in analog circuits for post process trimming. Floating gate devices with different aspect ratios have been fabricated to facilitate this behavioral study in PDSOI process. Fundamentals of floating gate devices, the advantages and disadvantages of PDSOI compared to bulk CMOS with respect to single-poly floating gate devices are discussed. Various experiments on behavior and performance of threshold voltage have been conducted and its variation with programming/erasing time and amplitude has been analyzed. The single-poly FGD’s on-resistance variation and hysteresis behavior with threshold voltage has been documented. A mathematical relation between FGD’s on-resistance and threshold voltage has been experimentally derived. Intrinsic data retention has been estimated through extrapolation of experimental data. A process independent MATLAB simulation model has been successfully developed for understanding the threshold voltage time dependence characteristics. And finally, this work has shown that programmable or post-process trimmable analog circuits can be implemented in SOI using single-poly FGDs as programmable resistive elements. A SOI programmable beta-multiplier current reference has been successfully demonstrated using the singlepoly FGD as a resistive element

“You Got To Know Us”: A Hopeful Model for Music Education in Urban Schools

Urban schools, and the students and teachers within, are often characterized by a metanarrative of deficit and crisis, causing the complex realities of urban education to remain unclear behind a wall of assumptions and stereotypes. Within music education, urban schools have received limited but increasing attention from researchers. However, voices from practitioners are often missing from this dialogue, and the extant scholarly dialogue has had a very limited effect on music teacher education. In this article, five music educators with a combined thirty years of experience in urban schools examine aspects of their experiences in the light of critical pedagogy in an attempt to disrupt the metanarrative of deficit, crisis, and decline that continues to surround urban music education. By promoting the lived-stories of successful urban music students, teachers, and programs, the authors hope to situate urban music education as a site of renewal, reform, and meaningful learning. This paper emerged from a panel discussion regarding promising practices in secondary general music with urban youth that took place at the New Directions in Music Education conference held at Michigan State University in October of 2011

AIM OF THE STUDY: To assess the three dimensional changes in condylar position in patients with temporomandibular disorder (TMD) following splint therapy using Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) and Measured Condylar Displacement (MCD) device. To record the mandibular movements with an axiograph in TMD patients following treatment with stabilization splints and to compare with the asymptomatic control group. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study group consisted of five patients with TMD having Skeletal Class II malocclusion. The mean age of the patients in the study group was 22.2 ± 2.32 years. The patients were treated with stabilization splints till the alleviation of signs and symptoms of TMD. The three dimensional changes in condylar position following splint therapy was then assessed using both MCD device and CBCT data. The mandibular movements were recorded using an axiograph and compared to asymptomatic control group. RESULTS: All TMD patients wore stabilization splints till the disappearance of signs and symptoms of TMD was evident. The duration of treatment lasted for a period of 6-12 months. The three dimensional changes in the condylar position was assessed using MCD device that showed significant reduction in CR- CO discrepancy in all three planes of space. Similar changes were evident in joint spaces assessed using CBCT data. There was no significant difference elicited in mandibular tracings recorded using mechanical axiograph between TMD patients treated with stabilization splints and asymptomatic control group. CONCLUSION: The study demonstrated that stabilization splints were effective for patients with TMD in terms of alleviation of signs and symptoms of TMD and decrease in CR- CO discrepancy thus seating the condyle in a more orthopaedic stable joint position. CBCT data also demonstrated similar changes in joint spaces following splint therapy and the direction of change in condylar position was found to be correlating with the MCD data. The mandibular movements assessed using an axiograph in TMD patients following splint therapy were similar to that of the asymptomatic control group

    Master Planned Communities and Governance

    Get PDF
In the last three decades, a number of master planned communities (MPCs) have been developed in South East Queensland (SEQ) as part of the response to the housing demands of rapid population growth. Developers, state government, local councils and communities play key roles in the production and management of infrastructure and community services in these Masterplanned communities. Alongside rising community expectations regarding quality of services, there is an increasing trend for developers to be involved in either the direct provision of infrastructure, or its funding, with local councils and the state government playing a facilitating role in provision of services alongside their more traditional role of direct provision. It is imperative to understand the governance structures as well as governance challenges of master planned communities at different stages of development. The objectives of this paper are to review governance frameworks and challenges for master planned communities at three critical stages of development: the visioning and planning stage, the implementation stage, and the completion stage. The paper has identified three distinct governance structures of master planned communities – single developer model, principal developer model and government led model. Three case studies from South East Queensland, each being representative of a particular governance structure, are used to evaluate each of the three stages of development with respect to the challenges involved in the provision of infrastructure and services. The paper provides a framework for analysing the relationship between governance structures and the development of master planned communities, focusing on the relationships that exist between institutional stakeholders, and on the potential impacts of the transfer of infrastructure and service provision from private management to community and local control

    Premolar Extraction Affects Mandibular Kinematics

Objectives: The practice of premolar extraction in orthodontics is controversial for its potential detrimental effects on the stomatognathic system. However, the ways in which premolar extraction affects mandibular function are still poorly understood. The purpose of this study was to assess the influence of premolar extraction on mandibular kinematics by evaluating axiographic tracings. Materials and methods: Forty-five orthodontically treated patients with premolar teeth extraction were compared with 45 paired untreated controls, selected for the absence of malocclusions. Systematic three-dimensional axiographic recordings of the mandibular movements were performed for protrusive-retrusive movements and speech. The transversal deviations and length of the movements were recorded for both sides along with the rotation angle during speech. Statistical analysis: Differences between the axiographic variables were analyzed via the permutation test and Wilcoxon rank-sum test. Linear regression was performed to test whether axiographic parameters were predictive of group affiliation. Dot plots were used to explore the distribution of each of the axiographic outcomes, and isometric principal component analysis to assess the differences between the cumulative effects of premolar extraction on jaw motion. Results: The mandibular lateral translation in protrusion-retrusion and speech, the amount of rotation as well as the length of mandibular movements during speech were significantly higher in the treated subjects than in the controls, while retral stability did not differ. The linear regression yielded significant results for the mandibular lateral translation in protrusion-retrusion. The isometric principal component analysis showed higher values of the axiographic variables for 11 out of 45 individuals in the study sample compared with the control group. Conclusions: Premolar extraction altered mandibular kinematics in at least 25% of the cases within our sample, and the transversal discrepancy between protrusive and retrusive tracings was even predictive of group affiliation. These results support the notion that the routine practice of premolar extraction as part of the orthodontic treatment should be discouraged. It is compelling to perform further studies to assess whether a disrupted kinematics of the mandible is associated to temporomandibular disorders

Impact of information technology on organizations: The state of the art

    Get PDF
This article gives an introduction to the field of impact research. After a short discussion of the role of information in organizational context, the interaction perspective on impact research is presented. Empirical research results in the field of impacts of IT on internal organization in 11 organizations in the fields of banking, services, government and industry are presented. In general the systems studied were useful in realizing more centralization and impersonal control. Professionals seemed to be very pleased with information systems, because they avoided tedious jobs and organizational bottle-necks, and gave them opportunities to do their work in a better way. This is very different from the experiences of non-professional workers, who met with more routinization, rigidity and job dissatisfactions. Competitiveness was very often increased due to big cost savings and better service to clients. The authors note that much extra research is needed, especially for making more accurate estimates of impacts and how they occur. This should become an integral part of systems development and information management practice in the future
