THE FARM LEVEL EFFECTS OF BETTER ACCESS TO INFORMATION: THE CASE OF DART
In this study, two methods of entering and accessing dairy herd records are compared: the traditional mail-in Dairy Herd Improvement (DHI) system and the Direct Access to Records by Telephone (DART) system, which provides more timely and convenient access to records. An evaluation of DART was carried out using mail survey responses from 117 DART users and telephone surveys of 40 randomly selected users. Results indicate that DART users are generally satisfied with the system and feel that it improves their herd management. Variations in use of the DART system by DART users are explained by herd, cost, and management variables. DART users and comparable non-DART, DHI users are compared with respect to gains in herd production efficiency. Results indicate that DART users made somewhat better gains in most efficiency measures but that the differences were generally not statistically significant.Farm Management,

DART-ID increases single-cell proteome coverage.
Analysis by liquid chromatography and tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) can identify and quantify thousands of proteins in microgram-level samples, such as those comprised of thousands of cells. This process, however, remains challenging for smaller samples, such as the proteomes of single mammalian cells, because reduced protein levels reduce the number of confidently sequenced peptides. To alleviate this reduction, we developed Data-driven Alignment of Retention Times for IDentification (DART-ID). DART-ID implements principled Bayesian frameworks for global retention time (RT) alignment and for incorporating RT estimates towards improved confidence estimates of peptide-spectrum-matches. When applied to bulk or to single-cell samples, DART-ID increased the number of data points by 30-50% at 1% FDR, and thus decreased missing data. Benchmarks indicate excellent quantification of peptides upgraded by DART-ID and support their utility for quantitative analysis, such as identifying cell types and cell-type specific proteins. The additional datapoints provided by DART-ID boost the statistical power and double the number of proteins identified as differentially abundant in monocytes and T-cells. A Light-Weight Forwarding Plane for Content-Centric Networks
We present CCN-DART, a more efficient forwarding approach for content-centric
networking (CCN) than named data networking (NDN) that substitutes Pending
Interest Tables (PIT) with Data Answer Routing Tables (DART) and uses a novel
approach to eliminate forwarding loops. The forwarding state required at each
router using CCN-DART consists of segments of the routes between consumers and
content providers that traverse a content router, rather than the Interests
that the router forwards towards content providers. Accordingly, the size of a
DART is proportional to the number of routes used by Interests traversing a
router, rather than the number of Interests traversing a router. We show that
CCN-DART avoids forwarding loops by comparing distances to name prefixes
reported by neighbors, even when routing loops exist. Results of simulation
experiments comparing CCN-DART with NDN using the ndnSIM simulation tool show
that CCN-DART incurs 10 to 20 times less storage overhead
Tailoring CD19xCD3-DART exposure enhances T-cells to eradication of B-cell neoplasms.
Many patients with B-cell malignancies can be successfully treated, although tumor eradication is rarely achieved. T-cell-directed killing of tumor cells using engineered T-cells or bispecific antibodies is a promising approach for the treatment of hematologic malignancies. We investigated the efficacy of CD19xCD3 DART bispecific antibody in a broad panel of human primary B-cell malignancies. The CD19xCD3 DART identified 2 distinct subsets of patients, in which the neoplastic lymphocytes were eliminated with rapid or slow kinetics. Delayed responses were always overcome by a prolonged or repeated DART exposure. Both CD4 and CD8 effector cytotoxic cells were generated, and DART-mediated killing of CD4+ cells into cytotoxic effectors required the presence of CD8+ cells. Serial exposures to DART led to the exponential expansion of CD4 + and CD8 + cells and to the sequential ablation of neoplastic cells in absence of a PD-L1-mediated exhaustion. Lastly, patient-derived neoplastic B-cells (B-Acute Lymphoblast Leukemia and Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma) could be proficiently eradicated in a xenograft mouse model by DART-armed cytokine induced killer (CIK) cells. Collectively, patient tailored DART exposures can result in the effective elimination of CD19 positive leukemia and B-cell lymphoma and the association of bispecific antibodies with unmatched CIK cells represents an effective modality for the treatment of CD19 positive leukemia/lymphoma
The DART-Europe project: towards developing a European theses portal
This paper will report on the new European theses project DART-Europe. The purpose of this project is to align institutional and national e-theses developments across Europe with the wider open archives movement by the construction of a European portal for research theses, thus enabling a global view of European institutional research assets. This project is driven through an innovative partnership between an information provider and an international body of university libraries and open access consortia. The project’s goal is to explore the creation of a European model for the deposit, discovery, use and long-term care of research theses in an open access environment.
The paper will outline the projected outcomes of DART-Europe, which is an active group of institutions in addition to a technical service. To this end, DART-Europe is engaged with disciplines and institutions that are widening the definition of research by redefining the formats of theses.
For institutions and countries without a repository infrastructure, DART-Europe will enable the creation of a depository. Institutions and countries with a repository infrastructure can engage with DART-Europe to deliver their e-theses. DART-Europe acts as a technology bridge for researchers between those who have existing infrastructures and those who do not. The DART-Europe architecture assumes free at point of use access to full text theses, whether held on the DART-Europe server or by institutional repositories.
This paper will provide session attendees with the current progress of this initiative, including a report on the 5 strands of the project, including: architecture; creation of a management tool kit; content acquisition; digital preservation and an investigation of business models
The River Dart SAP Final Plan
This is the River Dart Salmon Action Plan Final document produced by the Environment Agency in 2003. This final Salmon Action Plan (SAP) for the River Dart catchment has been produced after consideration of feedback from external consultation. It provides a list of the agreed issues and actions for the next five years to maintain and improve the River Dart salmon stock. The low marine survival (likely to be below 10%) is possibly to be the main cause for the River Dart salmon stock non-compliance with its conservation limit. Actions protecting smolts and maximising spawning activity of returning adults are seen as priorities to contribute to mitigate the low marine survival. Also the lack of information on salmon stock and its habitat is recognised as one main factor limiting the better management of salmon fisheries. Efforts will be focused on gaining more knowledge and improving modelling techniques. The actions presented in this document are perceived as those required to address the important issues and factors limiting the salmon stock. This SAP aims also to promote long term collaboration between the Agency and other interested parties in managing the River Dart salmon stock and fisheries
Blogging the 2006 FIFA World Cup Finals
This study focuses on the use of new technologies by the sports-media complex, looking specifically at the 2006 FIFA World Cup Finals. Combining the world's single largest sports media event with one of the most current, complex forms of Web-based communication, this article explores extent to which football fans embedded in Germany used the Internet to blog their World Cup experiences. Various categories of blog sites were identified, including independent bloggers, bloggers using football-themed Web sites, and blogs hosted on corporate-sponsored platforms. The study shows that the anticipated "democratizing potential" of blogging was not evident during Germany 2006. Instead, blogging acted as a platform for corporations, which, employing professional journalists, told the fans' World Cup stories. © 2009 Human Kinetics, inc
Constraints on the perturbed mutual motion in Didymos due to impact-induced deformation of its primary after the DART impact
Binary near-Earth asteroid (65803) Didymos is the target of the proposed NASA
Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART), part of the Asteroid Impact &
Deflection Assessment (AIDA) mission concept. In this mission, the DART
spacecraft is planned to impact the secondary body of Didymos, perturbing
mutual dynamics of the system. The primary body is currently rotating at a spin
period close to the spin barrier of asteroids, and materials ejected from the
secondary due to the DART impact are likely to reach the primary. These
conditions may cause the primary to reshape, due to landslides, or internal
deformation, changing the permanent gravity field. Here, we propose that if
shape deformation of the primary occurs, the mutual orbit of the system would
be perturbed due to a change in the gravity field. We use a numerical
simulation technique based on the full two-body problem to investigate the
shape effect on the mutual dynamics in Didymos after the DART impact. The
results show that under constant volume, shape deformation induces strong
perturbation in the mutual motion. We find that the deformation process always
causes the orbital period of the system to become shorter. If surface layers
with a thickness greater than ~0.4 m on the poles of the primary move down to
the equatorial region due to the DART impact, a change in the orbital period of
the system and in the spin period of the primary will be detected by
