Concept level evaluation of the optical voltage and current sensors and an arrayed waveguide grating for aero-electrical system applications
In this paper we present, for the first time, the hybrid fiber-optic voltage and current sensors interrogated using an arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) device. Due to the excellent dynamic capabilities of an AWG-based interrogator and its improved robustness, the proposed system would be suitable for voltage and current monitoring within an aircraft electrical system. The voltage sensor comprises a multilayer piezoelectric stack, acting as a voltage-to-strain transducer, and a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) used to convert voltage induced strain changes within the stack into wavelength shifts. These wavelength shifts are then analysed by an AWG. To measure current, the same sensor type is used to monitor a specially designed ferrite-core current transformer. It is shown that the system is capable of measuring variable frequency of voltage and current waveforms, typical of those anticipated in the next generation aero-electric power systems. It is also demonstrated that the system can be used for voltage and current harmonic analysis and power quality measurement in such networks
Rectification in one--dimensional electronic systems
Asymmetric current--voltage () curves, known as the diode or
rectification effect, in one--dimensional electronic conductors can have their
origin from scattering off a single asymmetric impurity in the system. We
investigate this effect in the framework of the Tomonaga--Luttinger model for
electrons with spin. We show that electron interactions strongly enhance the
diode effect and lead to a pronounced current rectification even if the
impurity potential is weak. For strongly interacting electrons and not too
small voltages, the rectification current, , measuring
the asymmetry in the current--voltage curve, has a power--law dependence on the
voltage with a negative exponent, , leading to a bump in the
current--voltage curve.Comment: 9 pages; 3 figure
Computation of current-voltage characteristics of weak links
Simplified model for current-voltage characteristics of weak links is
suggested. It is based on approach which considers Andreev reflections as
responsible for the dissipative current through the metallic Josephson
junction. The model allows to calculate current-voltage characteristics of weak
links (superconductor - normal metal - superconductor junctions, microbridges,
superconducting nanowires) for different thicknesses of the normal layer at
different temperatures. The current-voltage characteristics of tin microbridges
at different temperatures were computed.Comment: 11 pages, 5 figure
Circuit prevents overcharging of secondary cell batteries
Circuit prevents battery cell overcharging by detecting and reducing the charging voltage to the open-circuit voltage of the battery when this current falls to a predetermined value. The voltage control depends on the fact that the charging current falls significantly when the battery nears its fully charged state
