Internet of Things-aided Smart Grid: Technologies, Architectures, Applications, Prototypes, and Future Research Directions
Traditional power grids are being transformed into Smart Grids (SGs) to
address the issues in existing power system due to uni-directional information
flow, energy wastage, growing energy demand, reliability and security. SGs
offer bi-directional energy flow between service providers and consumers,
involving power generation, transmission, distribution and utilization systems.
SGs employ various devices for the monitoring, analysis and control of the
grid, deployed at power plants, distribution centers and in consumers' premises
in a very large number. Hence, an SG requires connectivity, automation and the
tracking of such devices. This is achieved with the help of Internet of Things
(IoT). IoT helps SG systems to support various network functions throughout the
generation, transmission, distribution and consumption of energy by
incorporating IoT devices (such as sensors, actuators and smart meters), as
well as by providing the connectivity, automation and tracking for such
devices. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive survey on IoT-aided SG
systems, which includes the existing architectures, applications and prototypes
of IoT-aided SG systems. This survey also highlights the open issues,
challenges and future research directions for IoT-aided SG systems
Family residence
Nad obytnou částí je navržena sedlová střecha se sklonem 38° a nad prostorem garáže je navržena plochá pochozí střecha se sklonem 1°.The bachelor’s thesis is aimed on the solution of construction of "Family residence" in form of project documentation. The house is intended for one family. It is located on a slightly sloping parcel 693/12, cadastral area Lhota za Červeným Kostelecem, Červený Kostelec, Královehradecký district. The house is without basement and has two storeys with garage for two cars. The object is masonry building with gable roof with a slope of 38° and a flat roof with a slope of 1 °.
Understanding Occupational and Skill Demand in New Jersey's Utilities Industry
The utilities industry provides essential electricity, gas, water and sewer, and local telephone services to residents and businesses throughout New Jersey. This report summarizes the skill, knowledge, and educational requirements of key occupations in gas, electric, water and sewer, and telephone services. It also identifies strategies for meeting the workforce challenges facing the industry
Potential markets for a satellite-based mobile communications system
The objective of the study was to define the market needs for improved land mobile communications systems. Within the context of this objective, the following goals were set: (1) characterize the present mobile communications industry; (2) determine the market for an improved system for mobile communications; and (3) define the system requirements as seen from the potential customer's viewpoint. The scope of the study was defined by the following parameters: (1) markets were confined to U.S. and Canada; (2) range of operation generally exceeded 20 miles, but this was not restrictive; (3) the classes of potential users considered included all private sector users, and non-military public sector users; (4) the time span examined was 1975 to 1985; and (5) highly localized users were generally excluded - e.g., taxicabs, and local paging
Smart Grid Communications: Overview of Research Challenges, Solutions, and Standardization Activities
Optimization of energy consumption in future intelligent energy networks (or
Smart Grids) will be based on grid-integrated near-real-time communications
between various grid elements in generation, transmission, distribution and
loads. This paper discusses some of the challenges and opportunities of
communications research in the areas of smart grid and smart metering. In
particular, we focus on some of the key communications challenges for realizing
interoperable and future-proof smart grid/metering networks, smart grid
security and privacy, and how some of the existing networking technologies can
be applied to energy management. Finally, we also discuss the coordinated
standardization efforts in Europe to harmonize communications standards and
protocols.Comment: To be published in IEEE Communications Surveys and Tutorial
Space benefits: The secondary application of aerospace technology in other sectors of the economy
Benefit cases of aerospace technology utilization are presented for manufacturing, transportation, utilities, and health. General, organization, geographic, and field center indexes are included
Electrical Loads and Power Systems for the DEMO Nuclear Fusion Project
EU-DEMO is a European project, having the ambitious goal to be the first demonstrative
power plant based on nuclear fusion. The electrical power that is expected to be produced is in the
order of 700–800 MW, to be delivered via a connection to the European High Voltage electrical grid.
The initiation and control of fusion processes, besides the problems related to the nuclear physics,
need very complex electrical systems. Moreover, also the conversion of the output power is not
trivial, especially because of the inherent discontinuity in the EU-DEMO operations. The present
article concerns preliminary studies for the feasibility and realization of the nuclear fusion power
plant EU-DEMO, with a special focus on the power electrical systems. In particular, the first stage of
the study deals with the survey and analysis of the electrical loads, starting from the steady-state
loads. Their impact is so relevant that could jeopardy the efficiency and the convenience of the plant
itself. Afterwards, the loads are inserted into a preliminary internal distribution grid, sizing the main
electrical components to carry out the power flow analysis, which is based on simulation models
implemented in the DIgSILENT PowerFactory software
