Location analysis of Euroma conference contributions

Operations Management journal rankings are frequently published. Information on Operations\ud Management conferences is much harder to find. This may be due to the difficulties of ranking\ud conferences as well as due to the different motives that contributors to conferences have. In this paper we\ud perform exploratory analysis to determine for one specific conference (EurOMA) who has typically\ud contributed to these conferences. Our analysis focus is on the location of contributors, i.e. country and\ud affiliation. We found that the United Kingdom, Italy and Brazil contribute most authors and papers to the\ud EurOMA conferences. Countries such as Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, Sweden are also important\ud contributors. Highest contributing universities include the University of Sao Paulo, Cranfield University,\ud the University of Cambridge and Politecnico di Milano. People who plan to attend the EurOMA\ud conferences can, based on this, expect authors and papers from these countries and universities

Interfaces and interfacial effects in glass reinforced thermoplastics - Keynote Presentation

Optimization of the fibre-matrix interphase region is critical to achieving the required performance level in thermoplastic matrix composites. Due to its initial location on the fibre surface, the sizing layer is an important component in the formation and properties of the composite interphase. Consequently, any attempt to understand the science of the composite interphase must encompass an understanding of the science of sizing. In this paper the role of sizings from fibre manufacture through to performance of composite parts is reviewed. In particular the role of organosilane coupling agents and how the formation of a polysiloxane interphase is influenced by the surface properties of the fibre is examined. The influence of the sizing film former in terms of its level of interaction with the silane coupling agent is also examined. The importance of residual stresses in thermoplastic composites in the values obtained for the apparent adhesion levels in these systems is highlighted. These residual stresses are shown to play a significant role in determining the level of interfacial strength in thermoplastic composites and in particular in polyolefin matrices. By applying some of the available models for this phenomenon this analysis is extended to explore the effect of the anisotropic fibre microstructure of carbon, aramid and natural fibres on the apparent interfacial strength in thermoplastic composites

Facilitating change: tablet PC trials across two distance education focused universities

This paper reports on initial findings in comparing two distance universities’ approaches to trialling tablet technology to enhance communication between instructors and students. There were different reasons for initiating the trials and different approaches to each of the trials, but there were also some striking similarities. For instance both trials were led from the bottom up, however they were each conducted with no knowledge of the other. Funding for each of these trials was resourced from a university learning and teaching grant/fellowship and both projects used an action research approach. The emphasis for both trials was on pedagogical and technological staff development facilitated and administered through each project leader. The paper gives an overview of how the trials were conducted, what did and did not succeed and what could be improved. Longer lasting outcomes that have been achieved through these projects are described. This comparison is meant to guide and inform change agents and identify good practice in the management of technology trials

Preventing recidivism by using the theory of reintegrative shaming with conferences

Master's Project (M.A.) University of Alaska Fairbanks, 2013Driving while intoxicated in the United States is a major problem with more than 31 percent of national driving fatalities caused by intoxicated drivers. The purpose of the present study is to identify the possibility between the use of reintegrative shaming with conferences and the likelihood that it will reduce the recidivism of driving while intoxicated. The study explores John Brathwaite's theory on reintegrative shaming and how that theory applies in conferences. The emerging theory o f Storylines from Robert Agnew is also explored in its importance when conducting these conferences. Studies conducted in Australia, Pennsylvania, Kansas and Alaska have all suggested that the use of conferences, especially those which utilize reintegrative shaming and reintegrating offenders back into the community reduces the recidivism rates. The research found in this article helps point future studies to examine offenders in a longer term after they have completed reintegrative shaming programs and conferences

This evaluation reports on the Third Bush Justice Conference, held in Kenai, Alaska on November 8–12, 1976. Prior bush justice conferences were held at Alyeska (1970) and Minto (1974). Semantics, sensors, and the social web: The live social semantics experiments

The Live Social Semantics is an innovative application that encourages and guides social networking between researchers at conferences and similar events. The application integrates data and technologies from the Semantic Web, online social networks, and a face-to-face contact sensing platform. It helps researchers to find like-minded and influential researchers, to identify and meet people in their community of practice, and to capture and later retrace their real-world networking activities at conferences. The application was successfully deployed at two international conferences, attracting more than 300 users in total. International Conference on Dublin Core and Metadata Application 2004

The International Conference on Dublin Core and Metadata Applications took place on October 11-14, 2004 in Shanghai, China. It was the fourth in a series of expanded Dublin Core conferences that included a conference, tutorials and workshops.
