The Children’s Perspectives Protocol: A participatory approach to studying child work issues
This is the summary of a research protocol constructed as part of the Radda Barnen project "Children’s perspectives on their working lives", originally published in 1998. It provided the framework for local investigators carrying-out the initial study with 50 groups of working children in diverse occupations in Bangladesh, Ethiopia, The Philippines and Central America.
• The protocol was designed to inform popular assumptions about the impact of work in children's lives with evidence on children's own perception of their situation;
• The protocol is applied in ways sensitive to the local circumstances of working children, and their preferred ways of communicating their experiences;
• The protocol can be adapted to provide systematic, detailed accounts of specific occupational situations in ways that can inform context-appropriate interventions

Circumstantial Disconnection: Homelessness and Parental Relationships with Children
This article looks at homeless individuals to see how they think their residential situation affects their relationship with their non-homeless children. Using a survey of 75 homeless parents in Houston, Texas this analysis finds that homeless parents of non-homeless children believe that their living situation has a detrimental impact on their relationship with their children. While many respondents felt that they had a good relationship with their children the chances of maintaining a good relationship were less for respondents with adult children than minor children. While a majority of respondents with children felt that finding housing stability would help their relationship with their children, those with minority children were more optimistic that finding a permanent home would help them improve their parent-child relationship than those with older children
Trends in Age, Gender, and Ethnicity Among Children in Foster Care in Alaska
In Alaska, as in every other state, people who suspect children are being abused or
neglected can contact the designated child protection agency. In Alaska, that agency is
the Office of Children Services (OCS). It is responsible for investigating all reported
incidents and determining the level of risk to the health, safety, and welfare of children.
In a number of instances, children will be removed from their families and homes due to
unsafe conditions, and they are often placed in foster care.

The number of American children in foster care at any time, and the length of time they
spend in foster care, has been closely watched over the last several decades. Several
changes in policy and practice were introduced in the last 20 years, at national and state
levels, to reduce both the number of children in foster care and the length of time they
stay in foster care. These changes caused some dramatic trends at the national level: the
number of children in foster care in the U.S. declined by almost a quarter (23.7%)
between 2002 and 2012, with the decline being most pronounced among AfricanAmerican
children (47.1%). As of 2012, African-American children made up 26% of all
children in foster care nationwide, down from 37% a decade earlier. But during the same
period, the proportion of children in foster care classified as belonging to two or more
races almost doubled. And American Indian/Alaska Native children are the highest
represented ethnic group among foster children—13 of every 1,000 American
Indian/Alaska Native children in the U.S. were in foster care in 2012.
In contrast, no such dramatic changes happened in Alaska in recent years. This paper
reports on foster children in Alaska by age, gender, race, and region over the period
2006-2013. This information is important for state policymakers working to better protect
abused and neglected children. At the end of the paper we discuss questions the data raise
and describe additional data needed to better help children in foster care in Alaska.
We compiled data for this analysis from monthly reports of key indicators on foster
children in the state. OCS publishes monthly data on select indicators (Alaska State
Statutes 2011, Monthly reports concerning children, AK. Stat. § 47.05.100), in PDF
format on its website (http://dhss.alaska.gov/ocs/Pages/statistics/default.aspx). Data

Writing a Children Story Book: Rosaline the Beautiful Rose
This project brings up an issue about beauty concept in a form of children's story book with fantasy genre for children at the ages of 12 to 15. The story shows some beauty concepts in the world through the main character's fantastical adventure. The main character of this story is a beautiful little girl who always wants to be the most beautiful girl wherever she is. The main character thinks that beauty will help her to gain attention from everybody, and she loves to be the center of attention. The beauty concept obsesses her very much because of the beauty hegemony that appears in her society. Then through the magical journey in the four countries, the main character learns that beauty is not something as simple as the way she knows about it before. The main character experiences the false consciousness of beauty concepts from the society conditioning. In the end of the story, the main character then realizes that inner beauty is far more important than physical beauty
